One year we were in Finland, one of the guys FLEW the 718 all the way to the next track over. No damage! Just a bruised ego.
Many times we 'placed' the car ON TOP of the snow banks, nothing more than waiting for a Cayenne tow.
It was awesome!
These are called par for the course.

The great thing about these (rather pricey!) experiences is that you go through multiple stations on the ice including slalom, braking, skid-pad, and Scandinavian "rally" flick exercises. Then you get to put it all together on a short ice track course. I haven't seen anyone ground a 911 on a snowbank yet but did see an instructor do that with a Macan during a demonstration run!
I'm not necessarily God's gift to race craft, but learning the instinctive reactions that you need to get a car unsorted at low-speed is certainly a lesson portable to higher-speed driving and has served me well in all the cars I drive (GT4, Audi TTS, BMW 325 M3 stripped and caged race car).
Oh, and most importantly, it is FUN!

Instructors in Canada are all contractors, I know quite a few. head honcho Kees is actually the head instructor at our track. He knows his ****. On lead and follow events he will be driving with one hand, the other on the radio and his eyes will be on the mirror checking cars behind and constantly giving feedbacks. One would be hard pressed to keep up with him even in that state.
In Finland most of the instructors are contractors also, but there is a large portion of those that came from Porsche Leipzig and part of their regular driving school.
The Ice Experience comes in different flavours, from entry level to advance level driving. I believe the Quebec one tops out with 911 C4S, but in Finland you can go up to turbo S and Cup car. I did Finland 2 times a while back, drove everything from 718 to C4S to turbo S to GT3RS to Cup car to 918 on ice.
You don't have to be scared running by yourself, nothing you can do can harm the cars in the snow. Literally there is nothing solid for you to hit. And you will learn a great deal on car control from the course. Car reactions is exactly the same on ice as on dry tarmac, except at much slower and safer speed. Call it car driving 101. You will learn how to catch a sliding tail, hold it and slide, purposely induce a drift, etc. Skills you can use driving on track.
Porsche's programs aren't cheap, but they are the best.

Three Wheelin'
Getting to an outdoor go kart track is also excellent for learning how to drive by the seat of your pants. You learn the most when driving an ill handling rental cart whether it be with too much understeer or oversteer. It is a challenge to learn how to steer and brake the cart into handling better.
