I could see Porsche using the RSR moniker for a road and/or race car, but I had assumed it would be used on the 911 (where its use began 50 years ago). Surprised me to hear it in the context of the Cayman.
I remember Seinfeld used to have one of the few road versions.
Here are some pics of what the racer looked like:

The RSR is historically primarily a race car (it's having its 50th Anniversary now - widebody hot 2.8L with over 300hp version of the 1973 Carrera RS 2.7), but they did make a small number of the originals for road use.

If I remember my rumors correctly, the 718R was mostly distinguished by having a Manual gearbox (rather than the PDK-only RS and Spyder)

Haven't heard anything new on this in a while. Dealer confirmed they had heard Porsche was considering the “spyder RS “ but hadn’t heard anything on the R. I desperately want a 718R if it’s the same formula as the 991 911R.

Steve Sutcliffe mentions a forthcoming GT4 RS-R at the end of this video...

Quicker than every 992 ever tested at that circuit - will cause 992 GT3 owners to melt down faster than dems at an Elon Musk twitter convention

About 1.5 to 2 years ago I read from 2 independent automotive journalists that the R was a rumored version. My memory captured if built it would be lighter and more road focused than the GT4RS. Anybody have a cleaning lady with more definitive info?

And it will be even tougher to get and none will be driven as intended.

With the 911RSR being retired after the last race in Bahrain maybe he’s referring to a new RSR based on the cayman platform? Odd that he would mention it in a road car review though.

Right - and he specifically said it would be pushing the performance of the 4RS further. You wouldn’t compare a top level race car against a road car.

This is the essence of Porsche marketing genius . A bit of info here, a little leak to a jurno there and pretty soon (i.e. 2 yrs) it gets to fever-pitch and they either move on (concept didn't work) or announce a product. They are just soooo good at it; respect!
If it is a road car I'm kicking off the speculation that it's either the electric race car we've already seen or a massively swelled out GT4RS with much wider F and R track and Carbon body work and with all sorts of aero tricks to make the new GT3 RS look a bit old school. Either way massively expensive limited run and none of us, short of Jay Leno will ever see one...fun to speculate though and that's what keeps this forum alive.

The electric 718 replacement is already on testing and validation, once the 718 is done production the electric version will be there.
Again, the 911R isn't really a 'special' car. It was just a beta car to test out the then new gearbox that ultimately went into the GT3s and Touring's. It's hard to '**** off' 918 VIPs by giving them 911Rs to beta test.

Chris Harris would have been much more informed. Heck, Shmee knows more about stuff than Sutcliffe.
Sutcliffe isn't the most welcomed one. That's about as far as I would say publicly.
