Was drooling over the Ring vids and looking over the Motor1 pics and it seems the rear glass has defroster lines. Having a 911T with RS glass, I know that there are no defroster lines in the Gorilla material. I'd be pretty upset if the lightweight glass was not in the GT4 RS variant and elsewhere across the RS lines. Is it "normal" for these mules to not have to full lightweight RS equipment? (i.e., will Porsche add these only to production?). Just curious on thoughts.

Unless they are real centre locks - not the pseudo centre locks I have on my GT3RS these are a total PITA.

Yes and no, at least for club racers. There is marginal advantage in my cup car's one big nut and stub axle centrelocks. Club racers rarely change tyres in a hurry. For an RS that will do track days and not race five lugs will provide a larger number of wheel options with no practical disadvantages, at least as far as I can see. The GT3RS and GTS centrelocks are an affectation IMHO and make it harder to deal with a flat on the road.

How would real centerlocks be better than 5 lugs?

I lost a wheel on a 996 cup central lock on a race track... strange feeling... I'd rely more on 5 lugs since that...

To me, this redundancy is by far the biggest advantage of 5 lugs over centerlocks. 1 nut failing out of 5 >> 1 nut failing out of 1.

because you would have the wheel off in 10s and another back on in the same amount of time.

the faux ones are simply an affectation as others have said - a real centrelock is a big nut that can be removed by an air gun. It’s tightened to about 700Nm and pinned with a split pin

those fitted to the GTS/GT3/GT3RS are toys

So you prefer to depend on compressors, airguns, and teams of people for removing a wheel? What about service, maintenance, longevity, and sensitivity to error or to postponement of service/replacement? Why would you prefer all this to a simple torque-wrench and the redundancy (safety) of 5 nuts over 1?

Even if that were the case, why not enjoy the extra safety from (5:1) redundancy and have the option for hassle free wheel removal with just a torque-wrench? You can still pay a team $1000 to remove your 5 lug wheels whenever you want. There's zero upside to centerlocks unless you're doing 24hrs of Le Mans and every second mattered.

Centerlocks are a marketing gimmick for road cars.

How many Mclaren, Ferrari, or Lamborghini Road Cars have centerlocks?

Huh - I said take the 5 nut wheels over the faux centre locks - if you need centre locks get real ones.........................so yes you can take them off quickly etc etc. The centre locks on Porsche sports cars are a gimmick that the GT3 crowd seem to like - its a fashion thing and utterly pointless

I was questioning why take real center locks over 5 lugs.
