The TT isn't the only Audi that shares a lot with a VW. The Volkswagen Passat and Audi A4 are both built on the Volkswagen B platform. This sharing enables Audi to hold down its pricing.
Does this mean that the TT is garbage? No, but facts are facts. Bottom line is that since you loved your TT, it shouldn't matter what platform it's built on.

While I personally like what they've done with the 718, people who think Porsche can't make a styling misstep must be too young to remember the 964. That was an ugly *** beast that really didn't deserve to be called a 911 in my opinion. Always was, always will be. It looks like what VW would build if they built a 911.
The 996 is clearly the ugly outlier in the 911 family tree. By contrast, the 964 doesn’t even look all that different from a 930. It essentially looks like a 930 with a bodykit. While I personally prefer the 993, the 964’s proportions are in some respects better, particularly because the nose on the 993 is a little long and incongruent.
The prices these generations command in the market seem fairly consistent with ranking based on looks alone.
Coming back to the 718, that tacky rear end would make the car a non-starter for me. It makes it look like the trunk doesn't close properly.

My BMW 228xi was a 4-cylinder turbo, and after owning several BMW 6-cylinder cars, I found that BMW knew what they were doing with the new engine: HP and torque made it a fine driver, in my opinion, and I'm a long-time lover of BMW's 6-cylinder engines!
I'm anxious to see what the car magazines say about the new 718........

I agree that your car is b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l; the current Boxster design is spot on.....but I also think that the 718 is an acceptable evolution of the Boxster design and will sell in large numbers.

PRICE AS TESTED:
$41,375 (base price: $34,850)
718's at this price point would sell nicely, but at 75-80K I doubt it, at least in the USA.

Boxsters have not been big sellers for Porsche and it's hard for me to understand why they raised the price by $5K while putting a four cylinder engine in place of the NA six. I can't imagine buying a 718, but Porsche marketing is usually good at what they do. I can't wait to read the reviews of the cars either.

The only time this was said was going from the 993 to 996 generation.
And the naysayers were RIGHT! Porsche did ruin it. The 996 used values demonstrate this very clearly.
Nobody said the 997 was a ruined version of the 996. People loved the 997 when it came out.
And nobody said the 991 was a ruined version of the 997. People loved the 991. The only small whines were that it had grown a bit too big.
So you're completely wrong in your over generalization.

2) It sounds good? It sounds awful. Nobody is impressed with the sound.
3) It's an awesome performing car? Well numbers-wise yes. But whether it's enjoyable remains to be seen.

I hope they put the NA engine in the 718 Spyder version when they come out. The turbo charged 4 cylinder will never sound the same as a NA boxer 6 cylinder, doesn't matter how hard you work on the exhaust system.

You're assuming they will make a 718 Spyder - if so, likely not for a while. I'm still smiling with the sound my 981S makes with PSE engaged!

a car that pulls a lot stronger from low rpm,
a car that therefore requires less shifting and will be easier to drive/accelerate on public roads,
a car that has a "sporty throaty" sound.
and last but not least:
a Porsche
It will sell, just like the 3.0 turbo engines in the new 991 will sell, for exactly the same reasons. All the finesse you lose by going forced induction (and in the 718 case, by losing 2 cilinders on top of that) is something "the masses" don't care about.
They will argument that there is "no lag" by showing you the torque/hp curve, while anyone that has driven an N/A and turbo sports car can tell you that it's completely besides the point. Throttle modulation is not in their vocabulary as the most important metric is the 0-60 time, and boy did that improve with that low-end torque!
