I agree with this.

The 718S is within 1/10th of a second of the Carrera S Cab. First time a non specialty Boxster gets that close to the 911. It's a big performance leap over the 981S. Porsche is smart, they are taking away two cylinders but giving potential buyers a car that can pretty much match and in some respects likely surpass the 911.

a Porsche

It will sell, just like the 3.0 turbo engines in the new 991 will sell, for exactly the same reasons. All the finesse you lose by going forced induction (and in the 718 case, by losing 2 cilinders on top of that) is something "the masses" don't care about.

They will argument that there is "no lag" by showing you the torque/hp curve, while anyone that has driven an N/A and turbo sports car can tell you that it's completely besides the point. Throttle modulation is not in their vocabulary as the most important metric is the 0-60 time, and boy did that improve with that low-end torque!

Wow - the rear looks really strange from a bit above - like the starting picture in the second video. Like an add-on aftermarket spoiler.

It is quite a strange look ... It reminds me more than a little of the atrocious Bangle 6-series and 7-series BMW’s. From some angles, it just looks like someone forgot to close the trunk.

I agree, it is a bit too large, but you won't be flying over in a helicopter too often, so I doubt it would matter too much.

In total, I think the changes they made to the rear of the car, particularly the subtle changes to the haunches, make the car look more racy and masculine than the 981 and prior Boxsters.

Default exhaust sound

Just watched the 20 minute video, and I am not a fan of the exhaust sound. First time I heard the spyder exhaust, I was hooked! Actually, put a deposit and my name on the waiting list. The new exhaust like others have said sounds "farty".

Hope this only helps maintain 981 values. But to each their own.

No I won't. But I'm 180cm and that is probably enough height for me to see this add-on look-alike every time I approach the car...

Has Porsche really introduced speaker engine sound...? It sure sounds artificial (and not very nice)

Definitely sounds like an orchestra sans the highs (strings and woodwinds!), as phrased elsewhere on the internet -- can't remember where I read that.

Ha... Yeah. Sounds like my Fiancees GTI... which is fine for a 30k car... but for a Porsche??? Not sure about that. Not confirmed, but it does sounds like Porsche did the VW/Audi/BMW artificial sound... Pretty sure they had no choice.

4 cylinder 2.0 orange mid engine Porsche? I'm having flashbacks of my old 914.

Pshaw, the 914 is yesterday's news. They'll have no trouble outselling the 968 with the 718!

I thought for a moment about getting a 718. It looks fine to me. After watching and listening to the videos on Youtube its not happening. The exhaust note sounds contrived and is horrible. I'll stick with the 6 thanks.
