Widerstandsfahig Porsche 951

Highly skilled Porsche builder and avid Rennlister Brian Bergeron has something special up his sleeve for this year’s SEMA show.

Cool builds are nothing new here in the Rennlist forums, and the vast majority of them are quite ambitious. Regardless, when we found out that widebody masters Widerstandsfahig were building a one-off Porsche 951 for SEMA 2019, our interest was immediately peaked. After all, Brian Bergeron, founder of Widerstandsfahig, is an avid Rennlist member. And his own personal Porsche 944 racer has already earned its fair share of accolades, including a Hot Wheels Legends tour win and a special spot at Wekfest.

To date, Bergeron has built a total of five incredibly high quality machines for himself and his lucky clients. But his latest widebody Porsche, undergoing construction right here in the forums, might just be his greatest creation yet. This 951 is serving as somewhat of a test bed, as Bergeron is fitting the car with his brand new Project Nine bodywork package. Things started out rather humbly, however, with a 1987 951 wrapped in Rothman’s livery.

At first glance, the old Porsche looked to be in pretty solid shape. But during disassembly, it became evident that there were a lot of hidden bumps and bruises. Thus, the car was soon completely apart so that body and metal work could begin. This was to be an extensive project, with all-new molded body panels that will soon make their way to production for public consumption.

Bergeron was careful to mock everything up and test fit it to spare fenders to ensure the job went perfectly. As they say, you must measure twice and cut once. Or, maybe a few more times. Once he was sure of the fit, Bergeron began chopping up the fenders to make room not just for the new pieces, but also a much larger set of wheels and tires.

Thanks to Bergeron’s experience and expertise, this part of the job went flawlessly. He then turned his focus to making a custom chin spoiler and fitting the rear fenders, which required a bit more work. But in no time at all, that job was completed, along with the side skirts. A one-of-two rear bumper was the finishing touch on the outside before Bergeron began working on a modified roll cage for the interior.

At this point, it was all about fine tuning the fit and finish, a signature Widerstandsfahig feature. Another is attention to detail, which means the engine bay must be shaved and smoothed out to perfection. Progress came swiftly, and soon the chassis was in the shop receiving some primer. Then, the new bodywork was riveted into place. So it was time to test fit the massive 18×12″ wheels wrapped in 335 rubber.

At this point, the Porsche is in full primer and block sanding is in progress. So we’re obviously getting very close to seeing this beautiful reworked body receive a fresh paint job. We’re more than a little excited to see this incredible build come to fruition ahead of SEMA. And we’re betting you will be too. So be sure and head over here to stay tuned as this rad 951 inches toward completion!
