Porsche Mission E Hype Video Touts Impressive Features

What will $85,000 buy you in 2019? Just one of the most advanced Porsche vehicles ever built.

It wasn’t that long ago that the arrival of the first ever all-electric Porsche, the Mission E, seemed like a lifetime away. We had little more than some pretty pictures and a handful of rumors to go by – and not much else. But now, the specifics of the Mission E are shaping up rather quickly, and boy are they looking good.

Porsche CEO Oliver Blume recently confirmed much of what we already knew. Namely, that Porsche is sticking to its original promise that the all-electric wonder will go on sale by year-end 2019. But the most surprising tidbit is the cost of this technological marvel – somewhere around $85,000. That figure is considerably cheaper than the initial rumors of a $100,000+ price tag.

But what, exactly, does that price net you? This teaser video from Porsche themselves outlines a few clues, at least visually. For starters, you get next-gen Porsche design language, including elements that have already trickled “down” to many future models. The most notable of which are the quad LED headlights and continuous strip tailight bar.

Active aero promises to optimize air flow at speed on a body designed to cut through the air like a hot knife through butter. Progressive opening doors, sans pillars, make entry and egress much easier. And like much of the tech we’ve lulled over on the Mission E Concept, these elements look like they’re headed to production.

Blume also noted that we’ll be seeing pre-production prototypes out testing soon. Once that happens, we’ll get a better idea of just how true the production Mission E remains to the concept. But if you’re already sold on the idea of Porsche’s Tesla fighter, you might want to give your dealer a call and see if they’re one of the many reportedly taking deposits on the futuristic ride.
