Porsche CEO Reveals More Details About Mission E

Porsche’s Oliver Blume shares details about EV’s debut date and cost.

The Porsche Mission E is one of the most anticipated vehicles in the automaker’s illustrious history. The all-electric, four-door sports car appeared on the scene back in 2015, quickly stunning die-hard enthusiasts and green fanatics alike. The Mission E Concept had a claimed 600 horsepower, an all-wheel-drive system, and could get to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds. The four-door also featured a 310-mile range and could amass a charge of 80 percent in just 15 minutes.

But the last time we heard from Porsche, the Mission E was expected to come out sometime before the end of the decade and pricing wasn’t yet announced, though we had a feeling it wouldn’t exactly be affordable. Well, the UK’s Car Magazine spoke with Porsche CEO Oliver Blume at the 2017 Frankfurt Auto Show and got some more details about the Mission E.

As the outlet reports, the Mission E will go on sale by the end of 2019, so the German automaker is sticking to its word, but only just so much. The all-electric sedan, as Car Magazine claims, will sit in between the Panamera and the iconic Porsche 911. While the outlet didn’t extrapolate on that point, it would make sense for the Mission E to cost slightly more than the Panamera and have more performance than the vehicle, as well.

The Mission E, true to the concept we saw a few years ago, will only be offered as an electric vehicle, reports Car Magazine. But the vehicle will be available with various outputs, which we assume will be similar to the way Tesla sells the Model S. Other interesting nuggets of information include a conventional pecking order, which will surely see a Mission E S, GTS, and other models be made, as well as different body styles in the near future.

Another major tidbit of information that Car Magazine obtained about the Mission E is in regard to the electric sedan’s price. The outlet claims that the fully-electric sedan will be priced similarly to that of an entry-level Panamera. As a refresher, the base Panamera costs $86,050, including delivery fee.
