incidentally, Roger @California Motorsports had Albins in Australia do a design test to configure a R&P (in March of 2011)
and it turns out the closest they would be able to get to 3.00 would be a 3.30 and still have it fit and run properly.
that's a lot of gear but not quite enough for what i needed.
ok, Travis asked if I'd post pics that elucidate the angle of my lamps....

Ooh, that short ratio set sounds enticing for the very technical track I do most of my driving on (at least for the moment), where I spend most of it 3rd gear. Having a few more revs coming our of some of the corners would sure be nice. No plans to crack open the tranny anytime soon, though. But I'll have to add this to my wish list...

OD,
I went to California Motorsports web site to check out their close ratio gears. Do you happen to know if the price is for just the gears, or is it for a whole rebuilt gearbox?

the fastest way to find out is to call.
over the years, it seems when Porsche transmission shops are mentioned, there are four names that come up in conversation over and over.... I was doing research from like, 2008~2011, and I had the opportunity to speak with many Porsche and Audi transmission shops around the country including the four or five that come up most often in the conversation.... in the process of talking to people, and in the procurement of parts and services towards the completion of my transmission, from my personal experiences I would offer the highest praise to three of them based on their knowledge, experience and customer service.... there was also one that stood out immediately in the negative. these guys are mentioned often on Porsche and Audi pages, and the bad opinion I formed a few years ago - continues to be reinforced.... so, if it seems somebody was left off my list - well, that's how it goes.
i'd choose the following order of preference;
there is no right answer, of course. it's just my personal preference.
parts;
Advanced Automotion
California Motorsports
labor; whomever is closest... in your case, that's Advanced Automotion.
but, you're going to get top-notch work from all.
Kevin Gross, Catellus Engineering.
Scott Dewitt, Advanced Automotion.
Roger Brown, California Motorsports.
*forgot to add Chris Cervelli, Premier Motorsports
(don't personally know Chris, but gets rave reviews on the racing and 911 forums).
they're the 'go-to' shops for our Getrag boxes. I wouldn't stray too far from them.
to anyone planning to attempt to do your own work on the 968 box: get your ducks lined up and be sure you know what the hell you're doing with respect to bearing tolerances, shims and available rebuild parts and upgrades.... otherwise, you're treading water; if there's a situation where hiring the services of a specialist who knows what they're doing - proves to be money well spent...
this is one.

Thanks for the info; I'll definitely file it away for future reference. Thankfully, my tranny is shifting beautifully, and not making any scary sounds or giving any indication of needing work anytime soon. The ratios in the close-ratio box you describe above, particularly 3rd gear, would be very nice for the way I primarily use my car, which is for sessions at the track, where I keep it in 3rd on much of the short configuration, and the shorter 3rd gear ratio would put me closer to the sweet spot of the engine's power curve coming out of a few of the corners. But at those prices, all I can say is, "Nothing to see here - back away from this fantasy, and nobody gets hurt..."

it's early, but several RL'ers have pm'd, expressing interest.
so, I'd like to present my.... 200mph 944/968/928 GT style instrument cluster...
https://rennlist.com/forums/924-931-...issions-6.html
we can do metric, or swap out a few things, such as having a boost gauge in place of the clock.
I hope a few of you will get on board, as I think it's a worthwhile upgrade.

when: now.
what: a good, performance exhaust for a supercharged or tuned 944/S2/968 engine.
if anyone's interested, please make any reasonable to terrible offer.... go ahead.... make my day.
includes: test pipe to slp resonator, straight-to-s-pipe.[/B]
I'm keeping the muffler.
other sordid info: engine came out with 197.5 k miles..... it was a great run..... the lower half sure came through. I drove it hard at times; everywhere - including 150+ long trips. I ran that thin oil almost the whole time and still the engine still burns hardly a drop of oil.... now, it's gone to a good home.
other available parts:
1. I have a pair of camshafts falling somewhere between good and exceptionally good condition.
2. I have a nice radiator (never run in my car); w/ 48 k miles. '
3. computer, DME....
4. Sach's clutch with 18 k miles. all highway miles driven.
be needing a clutch anytime soon? this $1,150 dollar clutch is a no-brainer.
not only will it last a long time, it'll probably outlast you.... so; don't lose your chance to get a killer, discounted, almost-new clutch.
umm....
anyone out there with their FRONT bumper cover or a spare that can step onto a scale with the *cover
*(driving lights on or off would be just swell).
why:
I forgot to weigh mine before I modded it.
