just an opinion. (you can easily mothball the original crap in an airtight case).
1. 8.5 inch wheels w/ 235-255 mm tires front, 10 inch wheels w/ 275 or 285 tires rear. astonishing cornering. 2. big brakes on the front axle. more astonishing cornering and braking out of this world with the big tires. 3. real stereo components. the crap that came with the car is..... crap. 4. the inspiration of this thread.... good stuff ~ https://rennlist.com/forums/928-foru...-looooong.html 5. a proper 968 CS, or 911/996 steering wheel. 6. this one is optional but i like it: a nicer shift knob might be well, "nice." 7. the Deutch Nine rear seat delete.... if you can source one. This vendor apparently has gone the way of the dodo bird. with transcon driving or road trips in mind, the space this opens up is awesome... 8. maybe do the door panels and cassette holder over in leather. :icon107: UPDATE: 9. a Turbo S front lip.... or the od front lip for sure. :thumbsup: 10. 993/968 hybrid fenders w/ oem 993 Xenon 6000~8000K lamps. (some of the purists might say "no, not that ricer **** !" when half the 993 guys are already running 8000~12000k lamps. i've seen a 993 running 8000k lamps, and they look awesome. almost regret not getting them myself. but i'm running (DOT approved) 6000K Phillips lamps with just a touch of blue and i'm quite happy with them. nice. I'm following almost same pattern, although no D9 seat delete, and smaller and narrower wheels. I thought F235 R255could be cool. DOn't think we need more grip rear (if there's LSD but no turbo).

And it's also at least 15 years old. Even just replacing them with new factory Nokia speakers makes a hell of a difference. Finding a radio that looks at home in these cars is the hard part. 5. a proper 968 CS, or 911/996 steering wheel. I've been through 5 steering wheels - from the factory airbag wheel, three Momo wheels and the CS. Amazing what a difference just a wheel change can make and you need to make some careful considerations IRT wheel size. A 350mm wheel is too small. 360mm is barely acceptable. 370mm is about the same size as the factory wheel, but are hard to find in the aftermarket. The CS is around 365mm. Are you going to convert to a manual rack? Are you keeping or ditching the airbags? If you're ditching the airbags, then you should consider replacing the dash with a non-airbag version. A lot lighter and it won't look weird having an airbag on the passenger side, but not on the driver's. 6. this one is optional but i like it: a nicer shift knob might be well, "nice." I'm working on this right now. I've welded the upper section of a MINI Cooper shift lever to the lower half of my factory shifter. If I like it, I may go for a custom engraved Whalen Shift Machine locking knob. If I don't like it, I'm going with an aftermarket shift lever. 7. the Deutch Nine rear seat delete... the space this opens up is awesome... It is a nice, clean look and one that I considered (and still am). Terribly expensive though. Something you may want to try is to take a standard 944 rear seat bottom, strip off all the upholstery and cover it with carpet. I have a spare rear seat that I'm thinking about using. On wheels, must admit that I like the looks of 18 inch wheels with 225/265 (or wider, as they can be made to fit). However, I know a track day instructor who recently purchased a 968. He has put 205 / 225 on stock 17" wheels. Says the car comes much more alive. Says that wider/heavier tires kills the handling. It does not have enough power to need the added grip. I thought that an interesting opinion.

it's easy to defeat that airbag. once your airbag light comes on, the whole system will be off until reset.
at that point you can pull out the instruments and defeat the light if that is your preference. mine works fine with the 996 bag as it is also 5 ohms. , |

Another upgrade the 968 really should have is better, modern headlights. The stock ones aren't bad, but there's a lot of room for improvement. I'm working on a custom bixenon setup mounted in the bumper, I'll post it up if I ever get it worked out...

very nice indeed... i was gonna post that as the next item (993 lights with HID kit) as they are indeed, "period correct...."
i thought it might be going a bit too far. cause a general panic, etc. but, i can't keep these nasty lights on the car much longer.... looks like it's going to involve cutting about 1 cm out of the top and 1.5 cm out of the bottom of the sheet metal and doing some body work. not sure about how much around.... |
