VW/Audi 07K (2.5L 20V I5) Swap Thread

Love this idea too! Hank is a buddy, recently when driving though Vegas, he gave me a ride in a just completed TTRS with his treatment. As I left in my modded 996 TT it felt a little slow I have a perfectly running LS6 pulled from my race build so that is going into the 944t. Hanks motor combos aren't cheap and shouldn't be but we talked about what a cool build it would be.

I really hope this swap get's done more in the next few years.
I think it's the future for the 951 if you want big HP , but in a nice engine package that sees less stress than the 2.5l 4.
It revs, can put out huge HP, light engine, and can pass smog easier.
At least in CA this is the engine to have. I think once my engine blows, I may just try this swap.

I don't think you can pass smog in CA with this engine. It's from a FWD or AWD application only, and the referee is going to know that when he sees it in your RWD car. The swap rules require that the transmission be swapped along with the engine, which is impossible.
There's also the fact that a turbo conversion probably won't be smog legal.

Well this project got sidelined for even longer now as another Audi joined the stable. But, some other good news is Issam of iABED Industries (http://iabedindustries.com/) is also working on an 07k powered 944. Hopefully he'll be able to help figure out a bellhousing solution...he's a CAD master so I'm sure he will.

Because I don't want to invest in that just yet, maybe down the line. It came with a complete AAN swap. Going to swap that in stock for now, then I've got another spare AAN that I'll do a mild build on. I'll be happy with 300-400whp with this car, and at those power levels the AAN is cheaper than 07k. Don't need crazy power, that's what the 968 is for

Have you done size calcs of running the headers and turbo off the same side Alex? Looks like Hank runs some pretty big turbos off his and even sitting the motor upright I think it could be quite tight in our engine bays.

Turbo would definitely have to come forward to clear the strut tower. I've got an idea to use a Lamborghini Gallardo exhaust manifold reversed so it faces forward and would give plenty of clearance. Has a nice v-band outlet already. A custom tube header might be needed for high power levels, but that's easy enough to do.

Be nice not to have to move turbo forwards but I'd say that's what you'd have to do. Or spin the head around like Thingo did in his mega 968!
