Boxster S Spyder

Some dealers have them in stock but they are not allowed to test drive them because of a particular part missing. This is what my salesman told me. He could not tell me what was wrong with the Spyders but said they should have the part from Porsche in the next few days then I can drive the car. Apparently some people drove the cars already - now they put a stop to it for safety reasons. Anyone else hear this?

Hi all...i just receive an email from my sales guy. He said that my spyder is on the vessel from Germany. Assume the vessel is leaving Germany now i wonder how long will it take to arrive in the US ?

My car is completed and is at checkpoint 8 with a VIN!
Should be on a ship in 2 weeks.
I figure I will be "in the seat" third week of May. For others to use as a reference, my original production date was 3-17. So figure 2 months from production date till delivery on the spyder as a rough estimate. Maybe 2 weeks less on later production cars completely unaffected by the roof problem.

Does anyone have an update on the roof fix? My sources are telling me that it should just be a matter of days, and that no new parts need to be manufactured (just need to tighten a mechanism in the front latch). But, I guess we shall see . . . .

My dealer (who knew nothing about the recall as cars have not landed in Australia yet other than a Porsche Australia car that isn't for sale) made an interesting point. Based on what I had told him that the recall relates to the front latch, he said that you can actually "lock" the front latch without it actually been latched on. I am guessing he meant that it can look locked when in fact it has not latched on properly. He said he knows this because it happened to him and it came off later. This is a guy who has sold Porsches for a factory owned dealership for 30 years so he is no amatuer and knows how Porshe products work. So you can imagine how easy people can make this mistake and drive off. I am guessing his suspicions may be on the mark there.

hi all,
I took delivery of my spyder in the UK on 1st March.
I was told by Porsche on 19th March not to drive with the sun roof on.
There is a new part for the front latch mechanism due from Germany.
Yesterday I spoke to my dealer who could not give a date for the fix; very frustrating!

How much have you been able to drive it and what are your driving impressions?
Very frustrating that the dealer can not even provide an ETA on the parts to fix it...
Also makes me wonder what level of testing was done by Porsche that they did not encounter any issues...

Well, according to the NHTSA letter (link below -- see the "remedy" paragraph on page 2) it looks like the recall (and fix) is expected to happen sometime this month. Unclear whether that means days or weeks, though. Looks like 9 Boxster Spyders made it through to owners in the US, and those are the cars that are affected by the recall. Also attached below is a link to PCNA's letter to the NHTSA, from last week. My wait continues.

Interesting that the model designation is: Boxster S
Why would this not be classified as a Boxster Spyder? Porsche has indicated that the Boxster Spyder is another model in the Boxster lineup.
