The Spyder / Cayman R Auction Thread

I've seen that ebay Peridot for sale for a while direct from the dealer. Eventually it will sell at 100k.
I have a little personal perspective on sudden price increases like this. I managed to sell an E30 M3 in metallic grey with Cardinal red interior for what I paid for it, about 22K. Six months later these cars were going for 50k. These cars were going for 20k for years and years, then the buyer demographic changed and off they went.
Doubt if this is a bubble, there weren't very many made. Porsche specialty models, even if not truly different from their regular sports car offering command more money.
It won't make me change the way I use mine. It has 34k miles, a few more won't make a difference, unlike the 6k or 2k examples.

I would assume these cars with corrosion are being driven more year round which is even more likely to be done with the coupe vs convertible. My Spyder with 22k on the clock looks basically brand new underneath but then again it's stored during the cold salty months here on the East Coast.

Without talking to the previous owner, there are too many variable to understand why this car has corrosion at only 6k miles. My guess is that it was parked outside or in a partially enclosed space while in Puerto Rico where the heat, humidity, salty air, and rain could slowly do its thing to the underbody steel/iron fasteners and components. Not saying the corrosion is bad, but as Kris said, I would want a spotless underside if I was dishing out $95k for a CR. As long as the buyer is happy, that is all that matters.

Red R auction ended with a whimper not a bang. Sold price of $70,500 with zero last minute bids. I wonder why it didn't get a frenzy? Poor presentation? Things like the missing header bolt suggesting the car has had past mods? People just don't like red? Either way, seems like a fair price considering the BAT fee.

Not sure that's true, but only time will tell.
For me personally too much red in the interior. There is no shortage of nice Rs for sale now that prices have gone up.
Or maybe peak was two weeks ago.

1. product category: cayman R vs 981 GT4 vs 718 GT4
2. condition:colour/mods/service/etc
3. package: bucket/manual/others
4. Channel: sales volume on the same platform, country region, exposure rates
5. Environment: macro economic concern, trend.
I assume its because reason 1, 2 and 4.

There is also the fact that the 'R' is still something of a niche car. It is easily overlooked in the hype around the GT4RS, etc. And, finally, there is the fact that some auctions - for reasons unknown - just don't take off. This could have been one of them.
Regardless, $70K is not a terrible price.

Still always fun to watch. I'm sure the polarizing red accents played a part, in addition to the RSS lower control arms and upgraded master cylinder. There's basically zero reason to add those last two items unless you're tracking the car, so perhaps that weighed on folks too. I'm sure the missing bolt couldn't have helped and seems like something so obvious and easy to notice/replace prior to uploading the photos. I just think this one didn't 'show' as well as some other examples, but again, close to a $74k sales prices is hardly anything to sneeze at and I'm sure someone got a great car. The prior examples that recently sold for $20k more were both low mileage examples.

A great example with a very choice options list. My only wish would be for silver wheels instead of black but gosh that's a super nice Spyder right there. Timing of the season may have some effect but otherwise this should bring all the money. Looking forward to watching.
