Cayman R drive
#107
The funny thing about the Cayman R is that I like it more than my 991.1 Turbo S. If I sold one it would be the Turbo S and keep the R. The sound is better, driving experience is more engaging. The little flat 6 is great fun.

15k miles for $52k: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...ter-spyder-15/
There were two additional on BaT this year that were sold/bid to $50-55k and both had about 30k miles.

It’s the only Cayman R I can find
this sounder is nice but I’m looking specifically for a cayman R
Absolutely not. 85k miles w/ PDK and sofas is NOT worth $55k. That much money will get you one with less than half the mileage.

Interesting that you mention this. I too chose a G1 Spyder over my 2009 TT Cab. While I enjoyed the comforts and occasional turbo pin-you-back rush of it's power off the TT there was just somehting so alluring and special about the Spyder. I never regretted selling the TT and getting the Spyder. Plain and simple driving joy.

Just adding the 6-speed manual alone while keeping the sofa seats yields a price similar to a PDK car with 1/2 to 1/5 the mileage. In the last 12 months on BaT:
PDK,
PDK, sofas, 24k miles, $52.5k: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...e-cayman-r-50/
6-speed manual, sofas, 75k miles, $58k: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...e-cayman-r-43/
6-speed manual, sofas, 69k miles, $55.5k: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...e-cayman-r-51/

Thanks so much
wow. Thanks for the heads up and for also opening my eyes to the Spyder. To be honest now I’m trying to learn everything I can about the 987 Spyder. It seems to be often compared to a GT level car. I didn’t realize it was such a rare and powerful car. I’m new to all this as I recently just purchased my first 997 Turbo.

Cayman R models tend to have lower mileage. I've never seen the sale of one with mileage that high, so comps are basically non-existent.
Considering they've sold for $55k (including auction fees) with less than 1/3 the mileage, I would assume $48-51k to a local CA buyer.
Nice 997 TT BTW!

I bit the bullet and ordered the FVD exhaust that @doworkexotics has. Listened to his video a LOT before pulling the trigger. I already know my wife won't be happy with the increased noise over stock, but she doesn't like riding in it anyways....

Congrats! You will love it. Post a video/let us know your thoughts when you get it. It has been the best modification I’ve done to the CR. The small 3.4L is so rev happy and the sound accompanying it is lovely. My buddy @Bxstr agreed that it has the Porsche flat 6 howl sound. I love it.

Please post your thoughts once you've had it installed.
My wife pretends not to hear the noise. One day she may break! :-)
