I'd have to agree with you. Our backroads are 45-55mph around here. If you want to keep your license, the Cayman R has the perfect amount of power, where you can get into the throttle a bit and have fun without completely risking your license. The Turbo S, you're completely risking your license. The initial shove off the line is amazing, but I'm going for engagement over speed. I also think the Cayman R is a bit easier to get sound out of, sure, I have a friend that used to have 997 Turbo's and a friend that currently does and they each sounded/sound great with high flow cats or catless, so zero complaints there, but the Cayman R sounds like perfection with a simple cat back like the FVD.

I bit the bullet and ordered the FVD exhaust that @doworkexotics has. Listened to his video a LOT before pulling the trigger. I already know my wife won't be happy with the increased noise over stock, but she doesn't like riding in it anyways....

We got out for a drive yesterday. Pretty amazing weather to have in Cleveland. Cayman R is as special as always. As we got out to take these pics, we were talking about just how good the Cayman R looks. Then as you approach it you can hear the idle, which with the FVD is simply perfect. I think both of us are semi-annoyed that we didn't jump on the silver Cayman R at Columbia Valley Luxury cars a couple months back with buckets for low $70s. Granted, I didn't have the money to spend on it, but what a car to load miles on and have essentially no depreciation associated with it. Not many have hit the market recently, but it's still surprising to me that these are priced where they're at. As we were driving yesterday, I mentioned that I'd take it over any 997 product, outside of a GT car. When you factor in price, there's days when I would take it over a GT car.

I just wish someone somewhere had something new to say about these cars! With the exception of a saggy headliner, it's the same 5-7 points repeated in each vid!

The video someone needs to make is one showing an R side-by-side with an S and then going through ALL the tiny differences. As someone that has owned both, simultaneously for almost 2 years, there is at least 100 differences. A tiny thing like black A/C vent surrounds doesn't sound like much, but from a manufacturing standpoint, it is significant and costly to do these low-volume parts on special editions. That would be unique from the current videos, which give broad overviews but are all pretty much the same, like you mention.

I agree as most reviews do not go over all of the R specific highlights.

It's February 3rd in Ohio. I haven't seen my GT3 in three months as it's in storage. Not sure I even own a GT3 at this point, lol. Luckily @doworkexotics and I both wanted to get together and get the Cayman R out. Roads are clean and it is starting to feel like spring, which is only a little over a month away. Going to say it again, Cayman R is the best value in Porsche for under $100k. I've been fortunate to drive a lot of really amazing cars and the fact that these are $80k or under for a nice one boggles my mind. If I knew what I know now, there's a high likelihood I'd have saved the price differential between a GT3 and Cayman R.
Also, the Cayman R has one of the best Porsche wheel designs ever, specifically in black with the silver lip.

Also, I'll describe something else cool that happened on our drive yesterday. We were pulling out of the neighborhood where we took those pics at and as we're approaching the intersection, we see a green 718 Spyder. It happened to be a friends family member that we know. We pulled out after him and seeing a sports car on the road in February is quite a sight to see. I'll see C8's on the road and some Mustang's, but it isn't common to see a 718 Spyder around here ever, let alone on a February day. I think with social media in particular, but to an extent even car shows, sports cars get normalized and we don't realize just how cool any of these Porsche sports cars are. You don't need to be in an RS car to be having fun, despite what people at C&C or on social media want you to believe. It's more important that you're getting out there, driving, and making memories with good friends. I still get excited when I see any Porsche sports car on the road today.
