Hey Chris - I would have thought you'd take a 'breather' after all the work that went in on the '89. Keep us posted on the C2's transformation.
I just did a few simple things on my '89 . . Test Pipe, Dansk Sport Muffler (one in/one out (84 mm tip)), Clewett Engineering ignition wire set, fresh plugs, fresh distributor cap & rotor, turbo tie rods, etc. I can't believe it's been almost a year since I bought it.

Lol. Breather. :-)
I did the initial chassis work 18mo ago and I've been wanting to track it but I want proper safety equipment in the car. So just been canyon driving it but it's time to wrap up this phase. Hoping to net another 30lbs out after the cage, stiffen up the drive train, exhaust, light flywheel, and make some chassis suspension tweaks. A few cosmetic things too.
The 89 needs to go down to autobahn to have the interior freshened then I'm done with that one for a while. Thing is after seeing how great the engine came out I'm tempted to pull all the suspension refresh the rubber bushings, calipers, wheels on that one and have everything replated or powder coated :-)
Carpet out. Glass out. Headliner out. Working on the insulation. All the stuff came out no ripped/broken bits. Car is being super-nice to work with. NO surprises.
Next is: finish insulation/sound deadening clean up. Drop motor. Weld in cage. Then box in/weld the seat mounts. Then paint work. Then the long list of 'stuff' including a few things that aren't on the current list (of course). Motor/trans build will not be this phase. Car has a fresh 3.6 rebuild and runs strong (and clean, just passed smog too!)
This step is taking a little time as BBI is using my car to finish up the development of the uprights. A few more tweaks being done after mounting the 3D printed prototypes up on my car and running through the bump/camber curves. I'll say they are improved over the factory 993 RS/Evo bits. :-)
Question: Who has a pointer to great LIGHT insulation/sound deadening - like very thin closed cell foam like product. One that YOU used.
just my experience in case it can help but light <> sound proofing ...
i used thick closed cell foam (see my 'trigger" thread) and bitumen and wasn't 100% happy with the result ie car lost some "solidity" in feel - needed some more to make it feel finished
IMO IF you don't want a cup car type visceral totally mechanically immersive experience ...
you need a combo of materials to make a varigated "density barrier" for the sound to get lost .. HMV (hi mass vinyl) lamintated to different open (again pockets for sound waves to get dispersed) cell foam is what factory used and what works. Vibration and tinniness can be reduced with dynamat type stuff but it doesn't reduce engine/road noise much.
I am doing a new project now using the following approach from metal up
1. wurth bodyshutz (very thin - 2 coats) ie 1kg
2. vw/Audi OEM rubberised stone chip (2 coats) ie 1.5 kg
3. wurth sound panels (bitumen w ali cloth) ie 5 kg 2mm thick
4. # 2 again for 2 coats ie 1.5kg
5. open cell foam laminated on both sides of some 2mm HMV ie 4kg (my version of dynaliner; 8 & 6mm thickness)
6. Carpets
(this is cos the old stuff is messy, water logged in places, flakey and weighs about 30kg where this will be max 14.)
If you just want to smooth out the carpet and provide a touch of sound proofing, a 4-5mm closed cell will make the back look neat and smooth (carpet doesnt get bunched or kinked) but will only get you 25-30% back to stock interior decibel levels.
Huge thanks for taking us along on this journey. It's been MEGA so far (have learned a lot and the eye candy is very nice), and now this! Are you taking the sunroof out also?
Thanks for bringing us along for the ride! Do you find you lose air with your E88s a lot. I hear they lose pressure because they are a race wheel. They have a seal in between the 3 pieces that expands for racing. I was thinking of using them as a daily wheel during the spring and summer months, but will shy away if I have to constantly refill them and go with the BBS LMs. Thanks!

No leaks in my e88. They hold pressure as good as any 3 piece wheel I've owned
