Oh, I know... very well. Wish the builder made the ceilings 120" all around. I'd have 2 lifts.

Had a guy come custom build mine. Try to find an independent installer. The big ones had no idea...

My high lift doors look just like yours. I am just starting to look into getting a lift installed and i want to understand why the door rails are an issue as the car should fit between thee rails - what am i missing?

Because the door slides in them and it will hit your car, you need to measure with the door in the up position.

The trick is to go torsion style springs. I am approx 6 inches from top on the rails. Changing to a torsion spring setup got a lot of hardware out of the way that would have normally forced to go lower on the rails.

I think it's a big plus because it allows additional height and clearance for the vehicles on and under the lift.

i can adjust where the door stops, so i should be able to set it so only the top part of the door will cover part of the rear. Need to be careful with my measurements though.

I'm having my rails raised, installing a side-mount new 1.0 hp garage door motor (yeah my current one is like a 20-yr old 0.5 hp center motor from Sears), and having my garage door's rear braces changed from wood to narrower but stronger & lighter aluminum... including the labor this will cost me $950.

And then the 4-post lift is next.... installed I'm looking at ~$3,000. So 4K'ish total. Burning Benjamins...
