Some of you that have followed the saga of this PTS color at McKenna at other threads in this & the 991 gt3 forum. Here are the highlights of the controversy.

First, quotes from this thread:

The story is a bit confusing and I am trying to get to the bottom of it before I report it here in full. In general I think McKenna is a pretty good dealership and I want to be fair to them. So I hope they provide me more information tomorrow and I'll report back to this thread on what they are saying about this PTS color! l
Second, quotes from the gt3 forum thread, starting on page 7:

However, the General Manager is insisting in personal email exchanges I had with their dealership today that it's a completely different PTS color! I'll get to the bottom of this mystery pretty soon and report back.

This 991 which the dealer professes is Signal Orange definitely has a significant orange tone, not a mustard tone like Speed Yellow, but definite orange. Inside the showroom the color appears similar to the orange taxi cabs that run around LA.

I must say the Signal Yellow '73 was striking. Regardless of the name, the color on the 991 was too orange for my taste. Ryan

As of the last published PTS list I have dated 1/23/2014, 'Signal Orange' was not an approved PTS color! It was not even under 'feasibility check started' or 'feasibility check needed'. So we are led to believe by this dealer that since that recent 1/23/2014 date, this historic & beautiful early 911 color -- 'Signal Orange' -- has been tested & approved by Porsche and ordered, built and delivered to a dealer in California. Tall order...but stranger things have happened at Porsche!

Of course, the dealership in question could lay all doubts to rest by producing the exact color code for the paint color, which is listed in the paperwork of the vehicle received from PCNA and also marked clearly on a visible part of the vehicle. In the 997 era, the 'colour code' was on a sticker applied to the inside part of the gas lid! It might still be the case with the 991 model.

But the dealership yesterday refused to supply that information. Instead, if offered two different numbers '98' & '789' which they claimed was the color code of their car when in fact I proved to them they were general codes that pertained to metallic or non-metallic paint and the fact the exterior paint was 'paint to sample'. Neither revealed the true color code of the PTS color in question. So the sheer ignorance of the staff handling these questions, which included their general manager Bob Hogan, was simply staggering!

My initial impression when I first looked at the photos posted in the 991 forum was that the color was PTS 'Signal Yellow', which is 'available' & has color code 114. I must remind you that factory-original 'Signal Yellow' paint has a bit of 'orange' in it! It is a gorgeous, rich color and I was lucky to have owned a factory original example in that color on a 1973 911T Sunroof Coupe. The so-called 'Signal Yellow' 1973 911 that McKenna parked right next to its PTS 991 would be telling, or revealing, ONLY IF the 'Signal Yellow' paint on that early 911 was original factory paint from 1972/1973! When I owned my '73 'Signal Yellow' coupe, many of my friends used to refer to it as 'your Orange 911'! You would be surprised how many repainted/restored 911's done in 'Signal Yellow' are not truly representative of the correct, factory-original hue! 'Signal Yellow' is notorious for being hard, almost impossible, to duplicate...I learned that lesson the hard way.

I have inquiries with PCNA re: the availability of 'Signal Orange'. I truly hope I am too pessimistic and indeed 'Signal Orange' is approved & on the exterior of that 991 at McKenna! I simply love 'Signal Orange'. It's one of the most beautiful colors ever used on the early long hood 911's. So we will see. I'll keep you all posted.

Color me surprised...with a tinge of Signal Yellow hue on the margins!

This just in from 'Porsche Exclusive' here in the US:

Hi Eduardo,

I hope this email finds you well and my apologies for the delay in getting
you this list!

Per your request, please see attached for the most up to date PTS list that
we have from Germany. As far as Signal Orange goes, that color is not
currently on our pre-approved list. Should you have any other questions
please do not hesitate to ask.

Best Regards,

On another front, I heard earlier today that Herr Hogan had ordered for lunch a poached 'crow' with a side dish of oranges over thick Béchamel sauce! That should keep Bob with the energy needed to continue the 'excellent' job he is doing as General Manager at McKenna!

I will post shortly the new PTS list that Matthew Henry has so kindly provided me so that we can inform our forum on the latest PTS colors approved, rejected and/or under consideration at PAG!

By the way, Eduardo, I've had my superhero / superstar Porsche sales guy submit something for feasibility review for me.

One of my all-time favorite colors, that I'm hoping will eventually be approved by the time allocs for some of the upcoming special 991's hit.

226 Chartreuse

Kudos to you & Brett Payne at Sonnen! You are both doing all of us a great favor by getting the feasibility tests on this spectacular color started! Hopefully it will be approved. As some of you know, Chartreuse is a historic early 911 color from 1972/1973. It was sometimes referred here is 'Lime Green'. But the color code was always the same - 226. This color was chosen by a fellow member of R Gruppe for his Limited Edition 4.0 gt3 RS, so we know it was approved for a .2 997. That might give us hope for the 991/981 body! It is an absolutely stunning color...perfect for those of you that want a historic color closely associated with the first 911 RS's!

Indeed! I'm hopeful that it'll get approved considering the 997.2 (and, ironically enough, seeing it on that RS 4.0 a while back was what sold me on the color -- though I've always been a fan even before that).

My goal is to do this on a 991 GT3 RS.

Default Latest PTS List from PCNA (as of July, 2014)

Matthew Henry of 'Porsche Exclusive' in the US has been kind enough to provide us with this latest list of PTS from PAG. The list has a new feature in that it identifies 'new' colors on the list - although that doesn't mean these colors were approved!

The PTS window is currently open for orders on MY2015 models.

Saludos,
Eduardo
Carmel

PS I have also attached the January 23, 2014 PTS list so that you can see the changes from that date to the present!

Kind of weird that Yachting Blue Metallic is listed as "feasibility check necessary" for the Panamera when it's already an available color for the Panamera.

PTS in that color is not available for the Panamera because it's an available $790 option on that model as you stated. It got put on the list because a 991 or 981 customer ordered it, then got tested and approved for just those two other models! Just like 'Carrara White Metallic' is not available as a PTS for the 991 & 981 because it's currently an available option at $710 for those models. But it was petitioned by a Panamera customer, got tested & approved for that model...and that is how it got to that list!

But I agree with you that technically the ? on the Panamera column should be instead a NOT AVAILABLE (zero with dash). That would make the logic consistent.

Thanks for posting the updated list Eduardo! Adding the extra column showing the new additions is a big help... I was able to very quickly run them through Google and see if there was anything that might upset the list of PTS colors I have in my mind as the "chosen ones" for what I hope to be a Cayman GT4 near the end of next year. I'm sure it will change over time (it already has once or twice) but as it is now, the list is:

(1) Fashion Grey
(2) Malachite Green Metallic
(3) Brewster Green

Ok, back to work!

I see no list with this post. Am I blind. Maybe my iPad app isn't showing it for some reason?
