Default Anyone from the UK still on Rennlist?

Hi Everyone,

I am sure that there are a few people? I am based in Gerrards Cross, close to Uxbridge/Slough.

Cheers,

David

Hi Steve,

There are a few of us; Chet is based in Denham with a 993 whilst Anil has a 968 and is based in Watford. I wasn't aware of any Porsche garages in Slough?

Cheers,

David

Hi David, glad to hear we are not alone! I’m near Wokingham. I’m sure you are right regarding Porsche garages, I was referring to the machining work I had done on my cylinder head as I thought you were near there, HT Howard, nice guy,

I’ve been lurking since 2003 although admittedly I’ve been quiet for a long time now and I’ve only just started again, based in the south east in Kent

Hi Steve, I’m using the Impact Bumpers site a lot, back in the day I was an avid Rennlist user. I think I’ll pick up again. I’ll start by sharing my daily driver, an ‘87 Carrera 3.2 in Indian Red

Great car! My 968 project is nowhere near that point as yet,

HA! I used to post quite a bit back then, after that marriage and family and tons of other commitments resulted in a long hiatus but at long last it’s once again P-car time 😛

Cheers Steve, the 968 is a great car. First Porsche I bought was a 944 cabriolet and I loved that car, the 968 especially the club sport was one I always fancied.

I worked in Dubai for a while and right outside my hotel a guy used to park his 968 cabriolet every day, being away from mine and seeing his every day prevented the Porsche blues!

Interesting story, guess Porsches are big in the Middle East! My thing for the 944 line started in 1986. Some banker type used to rev a guards red 944 away from the roundabout outside where I was living then every morning, all very Big Bang era really. I thought it was beautiful though. Eventually test drove a used base 944 years later but found it a bit wanting on power. I did acquire a used white 944 turbo in the 90s, though it was well used it was my daily driver for years. That was my last significant involvement in mechanics on a Porsche prior to the last year, I did a head job and other work, slightly simpler car. Early in the next decade I found a used black 968s pictured in my avatar. Loved the 030 suspension and other CS improvements, glad not to have the fully stripped down CS in daily family use. Family for me was a help, my older lads mechanical bent helped keep the car running at that time. Again the car was my daily driver for a good many years despite being almost 10 years old when I got it. By about 2010 it was getting tired with minor unreliabilities, Ford common sense prevailed. It sat relatively undervalued for years, with occasional drives when in commission between minor failures, the annual MOT usually prompting some Elastoplast style maintainance. Anyway last year I could bear watching it slowly deteriorating on the drive no longer. I cleared the garage out and started the way overdue major engine maintainance and steering overhaul now underway, part of the work needed to get it back into further years of reliable use. I’ve got no great interest in concourse looks, what I want is a car that’s solid in the engineering sense. Anyway the 968 should drive again in the next few months with totally refurbished steering, head job, cam chains, pads, belts etc. Feels like a long mutual journey for the car but unlike the white 944 sadly sold for buttons this one isn’t going anywhere, it’s valued now for what it is.

Nice story and glad to hear you’re getting your baby back on the road. No car likes sitting around unused, especially Porsche’s.

Funny how just the thought of driving some cars brings a grin to your face, keep smiling Steve!

Great story Steve,

I have a friend who has followed the 944 and then 968 route and he loves that car. It is pretty much totally refurbed now and looks mint! Glad to hear yours is on the mend. I have been doing the same with an E46 M3 though fortunately nothing needed on the engine. As the projects dry up on that I'm turning back to the Porsche which I've now had for twenty years.

Cheers,

David
