Good job Imre! Is it running OK with the bad coil or did you find one?

The coolant drain line was moved away from the coil and by the next morning the coil dried up and was working fine. Fine enough to drive it in dry weather.

Talking For What It's Worth...

I think...(My $9.28 worth) that all the $9.11 people should chip in and cover the steaks for the man who had the ***** to show the way for all who follow.....

Just sayin"...

What will soon follow are my fellow 928 commrads. The 996s are starting to get cheap enough and the repairs expensive enough that, the only people that would want to own them are DIYs. I remember the same thing happened with the 928, 15 years ago.

No problem guys, it was a jurney that's for sure.

Passed the safety inspection today, plates and the remainder of the GST will be in the next couple of days. The front lower ball joints were marginal, they will need changing soon but they passed it. If I add the cost of the ball joints (lets say a good used set), the total will be pretty much at $8500. So Rod and I decided to buy our own steaks.

We're already used to the DIY approach, and hey, whats' two fewer pistons?????

Just have to remember to brake hard early and hammer it coming out.....

Looks like you've got a few days of reasonable fall weather coming up, to allow you to give it some exercise.

You'll really enjoy that car, with all the sweat equity you've got in it. And if you think about it, that car was headed for dC Automotive, but you gave it a new life.

Got plates on it today and then tonight went for a 50km shakedown trip. Hit the 401 on the way back and looks like the ECM is learning the engine's parameters as it is now much quicker, quieter and smoother than during the first couple drives around the block. Therefore, looks like the engine repair project is now at the end.

There are other small that needs to be fixed and the transmission has some slight whine so at some point in the future, I'll crack it open but it will be fine for now.

Hopefully others will get some use out for this thread to do their own repairs in the future. It was fun, thanks for the encouragements.
