Once a year, the city of TO does environmental disposal days in neighbourhoods and you can bring all your toxic materials (paints, solvents, oil, etc) to the them free of any charge. They set up at one of the local high schools 5mins away in June usually. That's what I've done. Last year, I did a big clearcut of our paint closet and filled the back of my wife's suv with old paint cans... my 2 5l jugs of used Motul felt insignificant!
This year, I had my local indy do the brake/clutch fluid change and brought him my used oil. Happy to help me out.

The market has shifted from pay for used oil to a charge for used oil scenario because of the significant decline in crude back in Q2. The rerefiners are doing everything possible to hold that scenario based on the increased costs to pickup/ store and transport to their N.A refineries. I doubt we will ever see a pay for oil reality return. Shops didnt mind it when they were making money on the used black gold back in 09 and 10 but now the tables have turned. The MOE rules have also shifted and as Greg mentioned a spill onsite can be VERY costly.
If you live close to the refinery in Kitchener (Breslau) they have a tank for UMO on site that the public can use.
Keep recycling that UMO gold you are doing great things for the environment, sustainability and the circular economy. 👍

Clive,
Try Safety-Kleen in Breslau. Before the environmental fee, I used to drop it off there free of charge but it might cost you more than $5 that to just drop it off at the local dump.

George im not sure if this is a corporate direction or decided on by the individual franchise owners. But i would check before going over there with your used oil. Our change was very recent.

Hi Clive, at worst I'll bring it back to the car and keep in the garage until I find a way to get rid of it. I know about the official dump site in Milton but it's a bit of a drive. Adam also lives in Burlington, curious as to how he gets rid of the oil. I love that idea to call the city and they come to pick up the oil if it's at least 10 liters, should call Halton region and ask if they have the same.
