Hopefully good news, but I'll reserve my enthusiasm until I see how the classes break out.

"it’s believed GRAND-AM will serve as the sanctioning body "

Sigh.

Sigh.
so long as the rules package is (largely) ACO-based, I think GA being the sanctioning body is fine....remember, ALMS is largely run as a hobby, Grand AM (think NASCAR) is run as a business.....and the GA/NASCAR juggernaut is much more powerful in global motorsports (think manufacturer support).

I imagine the only GA class that will survive is GT, probably with FIA GT3 specs.

so theoretically it would be:

P1
P2
PC and/or DP
GT-Pro
GA GT/GT3

that would be a great field IMO....

With GA as the sanctioning body I won't hold my breath. Enjoy the ALMS races while you can. I am gonna have to get a satellite dish so I can watch European racing I suppose....

It depends largely on whose rule package they adopt, and I don't see ALMS accepting a merger under GA rules; so I assume it's ACO/WEC based.

and remember, GA has a better sponsor and TV package with an inferior product, NASCAR knows how to market.

That's the outcome I'm hoping for. I suspect though that they will have to make some provisions for the tube-frame cars that run GT in GA.

I imagine they'll be merged in with some form of BoP equivalency with GT3.

I think (hope) DP is dead, slower than P2 and more expensive than PC, what's the point?

Not sure what to think. Is it an admission that ALMS's lack of presence on TV has damaged the series? I think so but that's another topic.

My fear is that GA doesn't like Porsche. Is this the end of the RSR racing in America? I hope not. The new one is going to be raced in 2013 at limited events. I would hate to see it only run in Europe because GA prefers the cup.
