Danica Patrick at a crossroads amigos. Should she just go away now?
#167
If I were to make one criticism of D. Patrick, it would be that she needs to push the envelope more and quit trying to win races by making one less pit stop than competition. Until she does that, she will not be a very top tier driver. She is fast and a very smooth driver, but on race day she spends too much time trying to get lost in crowd and seems to just hope for attrition to give her track position instead of racing on the edge like the top drivers do. Maybe one big wreck that gives her a few visible racing scars will make her more aggressive. I don't even believe she has been upside down yet in an Indy or stock car.

Danica is a damn good driver. ....
However, she has not proven to be nearly as good a racer as driver. She is also not good at building a team around her. I was on track with her again at a test day while she was racing Atlantics (I was in a much slower class). When the car had issues, instead of staying at the track and pitching in, she went back to the hotel. She never seemed to be liked by her mechanics, etc. By contrast, I have seen much bigger name racers, climb under the car and pitch in - even go get pizza if that is what it took to help....

She hasn't changed since her days in karting ... she did the same things (in fact probably worse) back then.
Very few people who knew her or worked with her or raced against her back then are surprised today.
But, today, this is motorsports, not racing.

Wow...looks like I really struck a nerve.
Me? racist? LMFAO. Nah, I am not racist. I hate everyone.
To paraphrase you...I met a couple of people at VIR who know you and they told me you are a wife beater. Does this make it true?
By the way, Larry, I never said you were wrong. Nor did I "take offense". Nor do I care that you didn't "respect Danica".
I said you were a misogynist.
But it's nice to see how defensive you got anyway!

As an aside, her handful of "race leading" laps were falsely portrayed as something suggesting a chance to win in today WashPost. Anyone who knows racing knew that she could only have won if there was an extended yellow or black/red flag. Following fuel strategy is beyond the casual race audience and probably explains the move in F1.

You calling me a misogynist doesn't make it true. Damn annoying I'll admit since you don't know me. You remind me of a high school bully who laughs it up with his clique of buddies while dumping on those who you feel are your inferiors. Nice guy. I enjoyed the questions and answers in the "coach" thread, but now you've gone back to bully mode.

My only grip with Danica is that she can finish 8th in the Indy and be treated as if she won, and in more cases better than the guy that actually did win, at least when it comes to media attention. She's more than capable of holding her own in the sport so there is no question she belongs. But call me old fashioned but people should be recognized by what they do on the track, not by putting on nothing with legs open on magazine covers. Plus I don't like her attitude or demeanor at all.
Still pulling for Silvestro to see if she gets the same attention for similar results, which are bound to happen.

Wow, such hatred.
I do NOT care for Danica, not because she is a good driver of better than others managing her brand but it appers that sometimes she pulls out the victim card.
This I know:
She is one of 33 people who have enough skill to make the 2011 Indy field. How many here can say that?
She makes more money than most here.
She has not embarrassed the sport by doing things like running moonshine, beating her spouse or testing positive for meth or GHB.
So if you don't like Danica then just ignore her.
