All I know is I got the 2:00.7 without even trying very hard on the Kooks. The 2:02.3 on the NT01s was giving it all I had. Could almost call the Kooks cheater tires.

Is that typical - meaning that a stiffer sidewall tire will usually like relatively more spring? I wondered about that when changing from R6's to R7's - the R6's seemed to come in much sooner than the R7's on my e36, but the R7's once up to temperature should be faster. On the one hand I could see more spring or damper helping to get heat into the tire, on the other, as the tire is also acting as a spring, I could see where driver feel comes into play and a stiffer sidewall tire might feel better with softer spring combination. Or something like that. Oddly enough, Hoosier told me that the new construction of the R7 is a softer sidewall than the R6.

I think it's more that a mismatch of spring rate and sidewall can lead to premature overheating of the tire on track .

Yes...so it is not that I'm hard on tires in the M3...it is that my NT01s were mismatched to my spring rate.

I've been trying to kill the NT01s on the Miata and can't do it to save my life. Course, it would help if I could keep the car on track for a full day w/o mechanical problems....

Hoosier scrubs seem to be hit or miss. Set before NT01s were more slippery than the 2011 rain tires. Tried out a "new" set for a session and they were slightly better than the NT01s.

I've been told this is all in my imagination, though.

page 111 .. what a mommoth repository of all things racing!

I haven't posted for a while but always interested in the views expressed on these subjects so thanks.

Small question though ... seems one of the marshalls today was wearing a camera on his head - useful!

So is this a fast approach to the corner?

Haha note how while he waited to regain rear grip, his competitors walked away from him on exit?

Too fast in = Not so good!

Slow in = better than "too fast in" but worse than "fast in".

Yes but I should get some point for style

I brake latest of all on that corner after the longer back straight ... so no denying the fast (or maybe too fast) in ... but it works for my quali lap times and passing into that corner

but it does make catching a slip stream and having enough space on the next straight (which follows that corner) to pass into the next corner harder .... swings and roundabouts I think

also it may be heating the tires up too much i.e. the late braking?

From the GoPro behind me. I normally have a HANS but I forgot it this weekend.

Just a couple of things, Tor:

-you are pinching the exit of 2...don't be in such a hurry to being the car back left for 3
-apex 3...it's important
-start your turn in for 6 a bit sooner but with more gentle steering input...round it off a bit more and use the natural camber there
-go a bit deeper after the first apex in 10, in order to make the second apex, which sets you up for a better & faster launch into and out of 11
-go up to 4th gear before 12 and use more throttle position in 12
-go up to 5th gear on the main straight
