This will be very interesting. I expect to see Ferrari have the pace to pick one of the red bulls on the main straight. After the 1st lap, I expect to see status quo until pit stops. Some guys will make up during the straights on redbull, only to lose it in the turns.
Alonso has to get a jump on Webber (not the easiest to get past) and keep Vettel very close for any chance to pass him during pit stops. As expected, Massa is in a different zip code (outpaced by a MB) and will not be of any use to Alonso/Ferrari.
Alonso or Vettel must win, while Webber could afford to come in 2nd or 3rd. This is great, love it.

Starting from the low grip side of the track won't help Webber. Alonso may have an advantage from the get-go.

+1.
Add to that, the Vettel swerve and he might as well end up blocking Webber to allow Alonso thru. The main straight on the 1st lap is everyone's only hope to pass RedBull. Besides that, it will be impossible to pass them.

Why did Alonso abort his last lap? I thought he crossed the line in time?

Not enough fuel for another lap?
Concerns to limit engine time?
Over confidence that his time would stand?

Just hoping to hear the word "kablammo" and a picture of the Ferrari in the next 2 races.
Everyone has a fresh engine for the finale, so that shouldn't be an issue.

I think Alonso will take this one, Ferrari is stronger on straights so he should be able to pass Vettel on the long straight (Webber has no hope in the start as he's on dirty side and here it means a lot) and on e he's past Vettel, Seb has no chance as RB is only faster in 2nd & 3rd sector wher there us no chance to pass.

Is it possible for the rbr cars to draft the Ferrari and day close enough for a move at the end of the straight?

I can't see them buildingnup enough of a lead in sectors 2 and 3 to overcome sector 1.

Renault packages well, but is at a disadvantage since they didn't ask for a Ferrari engine "reliability" change from the FIA. Some reports have them down 60bhp to Mercedes and Ferrari.

I wonder if hamilton get into alonso at T1?

What do you mean by that? I am confused...

I think Webber used engine number 8 this weekend as well... as far as I know, at least Webber and Alonso have used there allotment of engines already.

One of the BBC announcers mentioned that the degradation is only about 5%, over 3 race weekends, so Redbull and Ferrari are not very concerned.

From what I heard Webber was the last one to go to his final fresh engine. All the others had taken theirs previously?

I thought under this year's rules, everyone is allowed to use a new 9th engine for the season finale...but I could be wrong.

Engine and aero is all I hear.

How about the only thing that actually touches the ground; tires, their degradation and the subsequent management thereof?

Doesn't that help McLaren as their chassis' are historically easy on the tires and in particular Jenson Button?

They said that during the Japanese Grand Prix. Abu Dabi is hard on motors.

I know sand ingestion is a major issue.

Regardless, very good point on the tire wear. So I would suspect that teams would run a higher downforce to counteract the tire wear... kinda puts the McLarens in a good position for qualifying. Great motor, the best f-duct... but interesting to see who will be fastest near the end of the race.

Which team is easiest on tires this year?
LOL -- that made me chuckle.

My comment was from a few street circuits we've race on where the asphalt was freshly ground or scraped and tire wear was critical.

Jenson and Kubica seem to do well at conserving tires (and their race car for that matter).

I am watching this one live!!!

Chris I just read your post. Exactly on point and in line with what I was thinking.

Btw it's raining in Korea.
