No, you mean outperforming the entire McLaren organizaton. I guess you forget that all of a sudden Alonso lost all his skills and couldn't qualify close enough to Lewis anymore after the incident. There was major sabotage that took place that yr. Lets get real here.
He had to take on an entire Team on his own and still came within 1 point of the wdc. That to me is an achievement in itself. McLaren tried everything they could, but they could only slow him down so much. He still tied for 2nd, without any team support.

You want us to get real? LMAO And I thought Wayne was creative. You've fallen into the depths of Wayne's world and that's a bad place to be.

Let's look at some facts. Excepting the French Grand Prix, Alonso never qualified worse than 6th, which he did three races later in Hungary. Over the year he qualified:
1st 2 times
2nd 7 times
3rd 2 times
4th 4 times
6th 1 time
10th 1 time
Hamilton's worse grid position was Europe, where he started in 10th. Other than that, he was a more consistent qualifier.
1st 6 times
2nd 6 times
4th 4 times
10th 1 time
Hamilton qualified more consistently, and he out-qualified Alonso 10 times versus Alonso out-qualifying 7 times.
Up until France, Alonso finished ahead of his grid position 2 out of 8 times. The second half of the season he finished ahead of his grid position 6 out of 9 times.
Hamilton out-scored Alonso 7 times, whereas Alonso out-scored Hamilton 10 times. In fact, if Alonso had not crashed out in Japan, he would have beaten Hamilton 8 of the last 9 races of the season.
What I take from this is Hamilton was very good at qualifying, but Alonso was better at converting his grid position during the race, and in fact improved in the second half of the season.
Show me where this "major sabotage" took place.

Raj is the mini me of Dr. Evil... er..... I mean Dr. Spins empire...
Raj, you remember Alonso's crash, all by himself this year at Spa don't you?
In 2007, I suspect this looked the same, Alonso all by himself... yes, both McLaren in 2007 and Ferrari in 2010 had remotes to have him spin by himself.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TH-xxl_qNrc
The bottom line is Alonso has NEVER EVER dealt with a strong teammate, with the exception of Hamilton. When he did, he simply did what he normally resorts to; lying and cheating with a little bit of blackmail sprinkled in for good measure. The guy is a complete and utter scumbag of the 1st degree and would not hesitate to put you, me or a teammate into a wall to advance him up the grid. Period.

Here nutters :
Whitmarsh: "A massive regret losing Fernando"
Aug.22 (GMM) Martin Whitmarsh has singled out Fernando Alonso's acrimonious departure at the end of 2007 as a "massive regret" of his 20-year McLaren career.
Whitmarsh, now team principal, was Ron Dennis' deputy two years ago, when Spaniard Alonso notoriously clashed with Dennis and rookie Lewis Hamilton and fled back to Renault after a single season under Mercedes power.
"A massive regret to me is losing a star like Fernando," Whitmarsh told the German news agency DPA. "He's one of the greatest racing drivers. I regret that we didn't make it work: we failed to manage the situation.
"This a good team, he is a good driver. We could have had more success than we've had."
His praise of double world champion Alonso, 27, is not an immediate bid to woo the driver back to McLaren, given that at Valencia on Friday he said confidently that Alonso is bound for Ferrari in 2010.
Whitmarsh is however running McLaren with a different style to that of his predecessor Dennis, and it seems reuniting with a driver like Alonso cannot now be ruled out.
"Sometimes we've been too arrogant, we have to accept it," he admitted. "I have been always very open in the company, my style is completely open."
NOW GET OVER IT , LEWIS IS NOT ON THE SAME LEVEL ..........

Yes really. His car was sabotaged during the later part of the season. Until then, Alonso and Hammy were neck to neck and all of a sudden Alonso could no longer post competitive times.
Unfortunately, we will never get to hear it from the horses mouth because of the gag agreement.

Well, as with any new track surface (will take some time to polish the surface the fine and coarse aggregate) , tire wear will be huge! The televised P2 session did display some wicked front tire wear.
This race will be interesting!!!

Regardless, very good point on the tire wear. So I would suspect that teams would run a higher downforce to counteract the tire wear... kinda puts the McLarens in a good position for qualifying. Great motor, the best f-duct... but interesting to see who will be fastest near the end of the race.
Which team is easiest on tires this year?

Pee Pee Ohh , having some late night Milky?...
Well if the front runners slowed a second or 2 they would have the same tire wear as Sauber lewis...expect to see the teams run a similar setup and strategy to Singapore ....

Can't wait for Webber's characteristic fast start and rocketing to the lead from the freshly laid dirty side again.....
