Default Mini vs. Porsche - Nothing short of AWESOME.

Not sure if any of you are up to speed on this. The CEO of Mini has challenged the CEO of Porsche North America to a race at Road Atlanta.

Porsche has said "No" so far. Here's the best part. At this very moment a plane is circling PCNA in Atlanta towing a banner that reads:

"Dear Porsche: Bring it. Love, Mini."

How awesome is this?! Love it. Win or lose this is an absolutely BRILLIANT ad campaign for Mini. I love it.

They already raced, in a parking lot, in two Enzo's. Thanks for playing.

Uh "Fabio", you did not read. Mini stepped it up a bit. I am well aware of the previous thread. For those like me that work in marketing, it is a brilliant campaign. Even if it fails.

MINI vs. 911, stock-vs-stock at Road Atlanta? That's a long, fast track.

I have to believe that MINI is gambling that Porsche does not take the bait. That's how MINI "wins" in this joust.

Even if they race and lose you can bet all the marketing is in place for that probability also. Unfair fight, Big dog beats up on little dog...

Guess you missed Porsche's response...

Dear Jim,

Imagine our surprise to discover our former employee, now the head of Mini, has challenged us to a head-to-head race. As you surely know, Porsche has a long history of racing success, with more than 28,000 wins over the last 60 years. In our early days, we pitted ourselves against the giants, so we’ve been in your shoes.

But as you also know, Porsche doesn’t race for fame, stunts, or publicity. We race to challenge ourselves; we race to push sports car technology; we race to translate every win on the track to our cars on the road. If you need a reminder of our intent, please take a look at this short video: http://tinyurl.com/37xdjqx

While your challenge seems like a fun and lighthearted campaign, we’ll stick to racing the way we have over the decades. We welcome you at Sebring, Le Mans, Daytona or any other sanctioned race where there is more at stake than T-shirts and valet parking spaces. We also invite you to any of the thousands of tracks around the world where Porsche owners compete each weekend.

Good luck with your race at Road Atlanta on June 21; we hope you enjoy the day.

Sincerely,

Detlev Von Platen President and CEO, Porsche Cars North America

What has changed? That is the exact same video that was pposted in my link from days ago. That was the same response from Porsche. The only change was the banner you mentioned.

BTW, the "race" was an auto-x set up in the parking lot, not the actual track IIRC.

I'll quote it for you. Just in case you missed the recent developments.

As of this morning - Mini was circling a plane about PNCA with a banner that reads:

"Dear Porsche: Bring it. Love, Mini."

I found this to be a hilarious response to PCNA's response. Love the David vs Goliath aspect of this.

I saw that. I even mentioned it in my last response. It is funny, I agree. Porsche has nothing to gain here and Mini has nothing to lose. Brilliant! You might want to post this banner info in the active Mini vs Porsche thread in OT. I'm sure they would like to see it.

It's like a kid poking a dog with a stick. It may not end well, but it sure will be funny.
