Awesome! I posted this on 6Speed:
I was there. One of 3 Porsches in attendance. I drove on the track (full Road Atlanta track) behind a pace car in the Advanced group. We got up to some good speeds but still safe. I made a pact with myself that I wouldn't take the C2S onto the track for 5 years, but broke that with less than 1 month of ownership!!
I had to leave early to get to my kids' hockey game...
I spoke to many nice folks at the track, both MINI owners and some people from MINI corporate in NJ. I knew they were in trouble when they told me the MINI driver was an owner of one of their dealerships who spends some time on the track. I know about Corey's credentials, and the probable gap in skills did not bode well for them. They said they tweaked the track a bit based on Cory's comments, and that he was faster in their qualifying. Also, they said Cory was very nice and did a great interview, speaking well of the MINI, etc.
They were great hosts, with great BBQ and Iced Tea. All and all, a good event, especially given the outcome.
Congrats Cory, and thanks for bring us a win!! Huge victory, given the way the deck was stacked in MINIs favor!!

Let's see MINI's you tube response. I for one, want to see "baldie" wear that looser t-shirt he promised to wear!

Good show, Cory. Imagine the whoopass you'd given that MINI if you'd only driven a Cayman S!

I won!
Wait, no, I lost.
Crap, I'm confused.
(Well done, Cory - my allegiance to Porsche is stronger than my allegiance to Mini, so I guess 'I' won.)

Agree. Everyone went home happy after a fun day. Look at all the free chatter Mini got.

Great job Cory! Where is John D? He should bestow a lifetime membership after you risked a banishment to represent Porsche for us.

Yep, this is going to really backfire on them though with Hyundai trying to get in on it:

...but missed their desired target. They could have generated the equal amount of publicity and good will through other stunts. They went out of their way to build a track where they thought they could win. They lost!
Sure , they get some publicity out of it, but not 100% of the target met.

I don't think Mini ever had any intention of winning. I expect that if the Mini was faster, then they would have changed the course to give the Porsche a narrow win. Then the Porsche wins the race, like everyone knows it should, but Mini wins too, because they were "so" close.

I can beat LeBron James in basketball. Foul shooting, of course, but that's basketball.

It was a great gimmick for Mini.
