Pete ! If you had raced you would realize most racers are superstitious and will not deviate from what routine they view as bringing them luck and success, be it a helmet type , shoe style or type of cereal in the morning, Alonso did this from his early days of karting and it has become a tradition for him ..

Schumacher was the same way , he always kept his contract in the car , he said it always brought him luck
Did someone mention Karting?

Went to orthopedic yesterday.
Broken foot, full lower leg cast for 3 weeks
Non displaced fracture shoulder blade, sling 24/7
Helmet going back to Arai for post mortem, new GP5 ordered and sent to painter.
Recheck in 3 weeks.
If all goes well, he wants to go straight from the orthopedic office to the airport and make our scheduled flight back to FL to race the next day.
He hates being away from his teammates.

Thanks again for the phone call down in Florida

From a father's point of view, it's always scary to see your kid crash. Glad to hear that he is doing well.

Pretty much how I thought she would.
She was very happy that all his safety equipment worked.

The scary thing wasn't seeing the crash, it was finally running down, getting over the fence and seeing him laying on his back, not moving, with the paramedics cutting his suit off of him....that's when I really feared for the worse (neck/spinal injury).

I asked him the other night if he was really sure he wants to continue racing, get right back into National level competition and if he would be a bit 'timid' around other karts ..... he just looked at me and wondered why the hell I was even asking.

Youth, gotta love it.

Oh that's a good sign. At least we know he didn't have a head injury

Good thing he wants to go right back, thinks your're an idiot even asking and even better that he didn't go with pink!

If he was explaining how he might have to take it slow, concider his options or had gone with the pink cast, you'd have Alonso jr. in your hands and we'd have to read your posts complaining how your son whines about your car set-up, pitwork and just you being unfair team manager overall...

Now it seems he's more of a Kimi type driver.

To get back on the detractor topic... Alonso, the great motivator, said that he doesn't expect to get to the podium and that fighting for 7th place is realistic. In fact, he believes it will be difficult to make it into the final qualifying. Our fearless team leader. www.f1racing.net

Speaking of head injuries, I contacted Arai Americas (you can't talk to them, you have to register on the website and send messages and wait a day or two for a reply message........

#1 You can't register an Arai auto helmet, just the motorcycle helmets.
#2. If your driver suffered a head injury (concussion, blurred vision, etc), then they won't inspect/recertify your helmet.
#3. If your driver did NOT suffer a head injury, then you can send your helmet back to them, along with a check for $10 (to cover return shipping) and they will perform a free inspection and let you know if the helmet is still safe to use.

I'm sending my son's helmet Arai SK-5 K2005 back, so it can be certified for use as a backup helmet.
I ordered him an Arai GP5 SA2005 (direct ship to painter to 'replicate' his paint scheme....one small change: the addition of the dolphin "Flipper" discretely on the helmet, since his teammates gave him that nickname after the accident) since I'm pretty sure at some point in the near future, he'll be in a car, likely Skippy and eventually the Cup.
