Thanks. Are you shaving them, or using full tread.

We in 944 spec used to shave (4/32) the RA-1's for best performance. One driver just started using the R888 and ran them for one session to break it. Ran them full tread for one very fast lap then they dropped off. His verdict was they were better than shaved RA-1's on their first heat cycle. I fully expect them to be better tire than the RA-1, but still provide a long life.

But the consensus is to run them full tread?

Definitely full tread. Actually, the tread depth is less than the RA1's at full tread and I've heard that they perform well without shaving and last just as long. Gonna have 2 1/2 days on them by Monday, so we'll see.

I ran them over a weekend last year. I thought the grip was great, much improved over the RA-1. As for the times, I didn't see any vasty varying times from heat cycle to heat cycle.

VR, FYI the 08 WC tire is going to be the R888 so you should be able to get take offs.

I know, and thanks...but I will need tires well before the first WC race. I am 1/2 way thru my last set of RA1 take offs now!

Do not run them full tread. They suck compared to a shaved R888. Overall they are a better tire than the RA1. Same compound but different carcass construction.

OK, thanks, man. What's the word for March at RA? I am still trying to make it work (2 full day tow each way).

Dave, I'm on the R888's right now. I had the Nitto N-01's which are supposed to be the same compound. I cannot tell you how much I loved the Nittos. I'm running the R888 at full tread, but thus far, I'm not too impressed. They seem to get overheated too quickly as compared to the Nittos. I haven't burned through them yet, so I can't say about longevity, but those are my thoughts.
