In my 7-8 sets of RA-1's I have found that it takes about 6 heat cycles to break in 4/32 shaved RA-1's. So this seems to confirm the same compound if it takes 6 heat cycle to wear in. Full tread RA-1's by compairison took about 12 heat cycles to wear in.

The RA-1 was listed as directional on the sidewall, but that was only for water evacuation at full tread. I have been told it was ok run RA-1's backwards and have done so for years. In fact when buying shaved RA-'s my toyo dealer would often mounted them all the same way (this mean at least 2 tires were always backwards). I would believe the R888 is the same and can be run backwards in the dry. Run them forward in the wet if you want best performance.

When I think of flipping them, it means dismounting the tire from the rim and flipping them over and remounting. Then you mount the wheel on the other side of the car so they still rotate in the same direction. After flipping them, it may take 1 or 2 sessions to run them in, depending on the amount of camber you are running.

When I talk about flipping I talk about running them backwards. I run the same size tire on all 4 corners of the car so have been roatating RA-1's around all 4 corners of the each track day since 2002 when I first started using them.

That's what I thought, disconnect in perception -- new thread.
I think dismount-flip-remount
you think swap side-to-side

I am iin my second set of Toyos R888's.
Two weeks ago I e-mailed the UK Toyo Technical Director asking if the Toyos R888's would be any better when "cured" , that is heating and letting them rest for at least 24 hours before using them again . The answer was negative. He recommended to heat them gently and let them rest for a while - I understood that he was talking about the same track session - before starting normally.

boqueron,
I don't understand. So should we heat cycle them before mounting or not?

That amazes me. You don't find the outside edge on the rears wears faster? How on earth could you and I get different results??

Here's a pic I took of RA1's after 5 days. Right edge (outside) worn badly. R888 seems similar.

Different alignment settings? Maybe you need more camber in the rears?

Roll stiffness, toe settings, and suspension compliance are also a players in this game. I flipped the tires because of uneven wear like the other Eric.

I'm surprised we can even run these tires because of the recommended camber settings. And the optimum settings are the same for the RA1 and the R888, -2.5 to -5.0?

Not before mounting. It seems that they have to be softly heated prior to working them hard..

Rog, what's the word?

Thanks.

I think Ernie Bello can get them for you, and of course Bob Woodman (had him bring a set to Daytona, but never needed them so he shipped them to Ernie for me)

Just used my second set last weekend with PBOC Winterfest. Drove 150 miles street, then onto the track. They are squirmy the first day, but on the second day I broke my all time record at Sebring that I sent a couple of years ago in my 996GT3 on brand spanking new Hoohoos.
