Rennsport III Report Thread

Those 956/962s are pretty damn badass, when talking with Patrick Long (he drove the Miller High Life car), his first comments were "it so fast!", "so much power, no power steering, these are the cars when you had to be real men" etc. When a guy who's job is to drive factory race cars is so exited about the power and speed of something, you know it's gotta be pretty damn special.
I talked to Patrick on Friday morning after he did a few laps in the Bayside car. He said the same things. The amazing thing to me was watching the guy jump in the car, do 2-3 hot laps, bring the car in and then come out on Sunday and burn the house down in the Miller car. The racing between Patrick and the Wynns car was some of the best racing I've seen in a very long time.
And right up until the spon by the Martini 908/3, Joe Torres was NOT having a cakewalk like I suspect he thought the race would be. That 908/3 was really something to watch - even in the straights.
Great weekend. Great racing. Great venue. Simply AMAZING cars!

Allright, thanks for the pics and the good words on my driving ! My best lap was a 2:10:9 (call it a 2:11 which is pretty fast for a 2 liter no aero car).
Our camp got first overall on Gmund also !
I know about all the cars and people there. I had a very hard time myself getting together with fellow Rennlisters also.
I will be at HSR this weekend also. Keep an eye out for me.
Cheers, Juan

Nice to be back on The List . I have been too busy with work .
It is nice to see what happens when the World has its eyes on you . Suddenly , the real displacement of the cars is apparent and you do not have to wonder how the other guy in your same group can be that much faster ?
Though there cheering for #226 , the display of machines was overwhelming . If you have a pulse , and the sight of a 962 or 917 , either stationary or at speed , does not make your rate faster , there is something wrong with you .
That it only takes place every 3rd year is a shame . More activities of this caliber would definitely inject much needed enthusiasm on this type of racing . Enough with the round - n - round stuff . Being able to walk around the pit and talk with the likes of Brian Redman and Vic Elford and get their autographs for my children , the future of the sport , in a no pressure atmosphere , is a plus . Keep it that way .

Yep Finn and I (after some cold beverages) were sitting watching your group on Friday and both agreed that the #1 996 was definitely the fastest...superb lines going through the infield. Smooth, clean and fast!! Congrats!

That red 993 looked pretty much like I was in front of you, except that if I would've been slower than you, there's no way in hell I would've left all that room for you to pass...
