I told somebody once that I would drive the car even if it were painted pink just to get on the racetrack.

Of the real racers, many can turn out a good lap time. However, the consistant ones, that also make the good decisions, (strategy, car preservation, as well as car control in off line traffic situations) usually win the races. Kind of like a quaterback. Lots of top quaterbacks can throw a football far, throw a football through a hanging tire while running, but what happens in the game separates the good from the great.

I don't care what it is, Spec Miata or ALMS...you paint the car pink and cover the costs, I'll show up and drive. As little as I've been behind the wheel lately, the pink car will be the least of my worries.

I shared that during my interview for my current job (when asked the "if you could do anything" question) and it is now the ice breaker for every other interview we do. I think they thought I was kidding...

So, there is the performance bar for a top pro drive. Run a top 5 Speed World-Challenge Touring car time, with a 280hp 2600lb car?
Sounds about right. Was that on slicks?

You can say that all you want, but 2:05 at Watkins Glen in a 280hp/2600lbs car is a top pro level time.
