Second most competitive? Karl posts very rarely. Mark does not.

Well, come on now, lets be honest, Leh was driving a UFO (unrestricted 04 RSR) and not a normal cup car. Still apples to apples in the same cup car he would be half a second to 3/4 a second faster than the other non pros.

Yes, of course, it takes considerable raw talent. But, the point is there are many amateur racers on this forum and many others around the country that also have a lot of raw talent, but might not be able to drop everything and race professionally... or at least try to.

How many people on this forum have owned and raced a $100,000 cup car before turning 21??? NOT MANY.

How many lower to lower-middle class people are there getting in a ton of seat time and laying down quick laps at your local track (in a Porsche)??? NOT MANY.

I'd submit that the vast majority of the pros (and fastest amateurs too, for that matter) either grew up with or now have considerable means and finances to pursue this increasingly exclusive sport.

doing the research; Rick DeMan has owned lap records and rediculous amounts of wins in MULTIPLE classes over the past few years at almost every major track(and minor for that matter).....a true driver's driver....

I vote for Leh Keen. he's quick in any car he drives, and I think that's the mark of a good driver. There are alot of great drivers out there, but sometimes I think it might be more car than driver in some cases. We all do not have the same resources to prepare our cars equally. So I tend to be impressed more by the driver that can jump into most any car and drive it fast and be competitive. Just my 2cents.

Leh Keen is one of my favorites for his ability to drive so fast and make it look so smoothe and easy. Another favorite (even though he's only had a few posts) is Randy Pobst.

I think there is no lack of talented drivers out there. I think it is a little misleading comparing lap times of different drivers in different cars with completely differnet prep levels. I think what sets the best from the good, is the decision making abilities in a race, not just lap time.

IMHO that's what separates the real racer from the talented driver.
