Tim, with respect, I do not see him shutting the door on anyone in that video. Bob was on the brakes earlier & stayed on the brakes later than the 944, and only when he went ag did he actually pull along side. Since the 911 was behind and, until the end, was slowing at approximately the same rate, the 944 talking the line is not IMO shutting the door on anyone. I have never known 911's to have worse brakes than 944's, although clearly Bob was approaching at a higher initial speed.

Maybe Bob has finally found the fastest line around Big Bend?

Geoffrey, maybe you should remind him that Olaf & Uwe were not droving their own cars!

This situation looks hauntingly familiar. My first club race, relatively inexperienced in driving the 964 Cup with ABS, I sailed into Big Bend threshold braking off-line where the braking grip is reduced and I took the same trajectory as Bob when pedal went hard and my ABS kicked in. I unfortunatley brushed the car at the apex and was issued a 13/13 penalty. I'm not sugesting that Bob fell prey to my same inexperience, but it just looks so similar. It brings back bad memories of a racing situation gone bad.

3 factors to consider ; disparty of class speeds, lots of traffic, small track .Also keep in mind that these classes do not usually run together.
Theres no substitute for experience.

I can't view Charlie's video, but if that's the Lime Rock enduro, the driver of the red 944 S2 is not a "rookie".

He is a very accomplished racer with 25-years of track experience who has driven just about every type of race car. He's probably got as many, if not more, laps around LRP as Bob or any other particpant in this discussion.

So, what you've got here (viz., in Charlie's vid) are two experienced racers in Big Bend. And, there are different ways around Big Bend. As another poster has indicated, some conclusions may have been premised upon that "X" on the 944's rear.

Tim,

I think SP3 was grouped with "E" at the LRP club race. SP1 & SP2 were grouped with "F", "G", etc. I'm not sure where SP3 will run at Watkins. I guess they could be included with either "F" stock and lower - or, "E", "D", etc.?

Ciao.

Ciao.
(sarcasm on)

But...but....but Colin 38D has declared unequivocally in this very thread that there is only ONE line thru there! Just as Bob Scotto declared unequivocally in another thread (and with a high level of self-righteous indignation) that there is only ONE line thru T5 at the Glen!

Surely they can't be WRONG, can they?

(sarcasm off)

If so many people seem to know this guy, why doesn't someone ask him about it and get his POV?

Geoffrey,

Do we have a HVR meeting tonite?

Place & time??

Thanks!

Sean,

Some folks dig the internet, (some a lot more than others), some don't. I doubt that Steve is even aware of this discussion and could probably care less. He's a humble and usually quiet gentleman - and a real nice person.

In Saturday's sprint race the car was driven by another experienced racer, (formula Atlantic, etc) -- although Ron hadn't raced in more than a few years from what I understand. We're in the same PCA region.

He does post here from time to time.
