That what we understand too. I believe support for wheel speed has been/is being introduced in their DL-1 model.

I'm going to be doing a couple of track days at the Glen this summer. I've never driven the track, in fact I haven't been there since the old F1 days. Does anyone know of any downloadable laps of the track?

If you guys want a good time at the Glen, My region (www.pca.org/hv) hosts an advanced drivers event every year with open track (drive when you want as long as you want) and pro drivers are available for $150 per 1/2 hour slot. Last year we had Bill Auberlin and Boris Said. This year it is May 19/20 and there is plenty of room available. See above link for forms and information.

That must be some street car you have there Ed, ... as just five posts before you that fella who has a 2003 Cup Car only reached 158 MPH and 163 MPH in a 2000 GT3R! Whew! Also, I must really applaud you being able to look down at the speedo as your breaking so late. Bigger "you-know-what’s" then me for sure. I'll definitely try and stay out of your way.

Indicated speeds in the 996 and 993 are way off of actual. Close to 10mph in my experience. If you know the gear and the max rpm before the brake point you can get a more accurate indication of top speed.

Okay, so help me out here Greg. Before decelerating - 6100 RPM in 5th gear, (changed from 4th to 5th at approx 6700 RPM), 3.6L in '87 Carrera, (dyno reading a month before was 297 h.p.), stock gearing, 17" wheels, coil overs, big brakes.

What would you calculate as my max speed? Thanks.

Hi Bill,

Yes, the tranny is stock G50, lightened flywheel, etc., I believe the tires were Goodrich Comp TA/R-1s (I really liked those Goodrich tires) on 17" cup style wheels 7's up front and 9's in the rear (the wheels were not genuine Porsche wheels and were quite heavy I thought). I think the tires were 225 in front and 275 in the rear, but possibly they were 205 or 215 in front and 235 or 245 in the rear.

Tire sizes were front: 205/50-17; rear: 255/40-17.

Your car was wearing 275/40/17s when I looked at it this weekend.

275/40/17 diameter = 25.8", G50/01 (USA) 5th gear = .889, Final drive = 3.444:1, engine rpm = 6100

road speed = rpm * (tire diameter * PI) / (final drive * 5th gear ratio * 1050)
road speed = 6100 * (25.8 * 3.14159) / (3.444 *.889 * 1050)
road speed = 153.7mph

You would have to be carrying well over 110mph through the esses to get terminal speed of 153 in your car.

road speed with 255/40/17s is 149mph.

I believe that the tire manufacturers published rev/mi is the more accurate measurement of what the tires effect on the cars gearing is.

using 811 rev/mi as the BFG rev/mi for a 275/40x17
the speed @ 6100 w/ a stock '87 trans in 5th 3/444 & .889 gives 147.4 mph

using 831 rev/mi as the BFG rev/mi for a 255/40x17
the speed @ 6100 w/ a stock '87 trans in 5th 3/444 & .889 gives 143.9 mph
