Here is what Car magazine had to say about the 918 in an article dated September 9th, 2013. Note how many cars have been sold which is substantially different for what others on saying in another thread.

Verdict
This was, without a doubt, one of the best days in my life as a motoring journalist. What a car! If it was not too late, I would marry rich or sell my soul to the devil just to get my hands on the most desirable contemporary Porsche. Who would have thought that a plug-in hybrid can be this much fun? Who would have guessed that one and the same vehicle could cross the city of Leipzig without burning a single drop of fuel and then lap the ’Ring at close to seven minutes? Who would believe that six months before the launch only 387 of the 918 limited-edition pieces are spoken for? So, dear millionaires, if you missed out on LaFerrari and P1, the 918 Spyder is still available at €675,00. And at the end of the day, it may well be the car to beat.

I had a feeling they were sandbagging w/ the 7:14.

6;57 while very impressive, was needed all these Hyper cars need to below the 7min mark.

Certainly an amazing time, but I think the P1 will beat it.

Didn't the P1 do 7:04...? they just didn't bring it out to the world, because they announced that the car would do it under 7 min. Pretty embarrassing for McLaren IMO....

Yes it did a 7:04

====================

Wonder what the McLaren P1 is gonna do. Last I heard it was above 7:00

Acceleration times and top speeds are all well and fine, but there are few bragging rights quite as hotly contested as a Nürburgring lap time. The current king of the hill is the Dodge Viper ACR, which managed to hustle around the Green Hell in 7:12.1. But that looks poised to be de-throned by the new McLaren P1.

Although far from confirmed, rumor has it that the P1 – which was caught just a couple of weeks ago lapping the Nordschleife – has clocked a lap time of 7:04, which would make it the fastest street-legal production car ever to round the famous German circuit. But McLaren hasn't confirmed the time, and it likely won't.

Why not, you ask? Because it's too slow.

That's right: beating the current record by six seconds isn't enough for Woking, which has made no secret of its unbridled ambition to break the seven-minute barrier. That's something that no street-legal production car has ever done. Sure, the Pagani Zonda R and Ferrari 599XX have busted into the sixes, but while they're both production-derived, neither is street legal.

As for the Radical SR8 LM, which clocked a time of 6:48 (just half a second behind the Pagani), its claim is rather dubious considering that it can only be driven in certain countries (not including this one, nor the one where the Nürburgring is located) by type-approval on a case-by-case basis.

I'm aware of the 7:04 P1 time, but I think it will be improved upon. Porsche had a 7:14 until recently improved to 6:57.

What's even better is that looked like a full lap, not the shortened version that most times are recorded using.

Changes everything regarding this car. Hope they post the full video at some point though.

And would be nice if they provided this for all of their GT line.

Exactly!
If one is a potential buyer of this car, would one buy the car because it does 6:57 on the Nordschleife or because one likes the car for what it is, Porsche's current masterpiece?

New tires coming for the P1? haha.. If they said below 7:00, I'm sure they will keep at it to reach that time...

That's a lot faster than I expected for the 918, pretty impressive...

Wow, I'm impressed.
He only had to catch the car a couple of times. More often it seemed to push a little.

Question again, and big friegen question here... Who was driving the 918; Maria Sabine? Or one of Porsche's paid hotshoes? -=Cough Cough=- Patrick Long?

I know it isn'tsome schmuck from the factory, perhaps Patrick Long or ever Waltrr Rorhle. Who I would be more than happy to turn a hot lap that would be published. That man still is a stud and and still kick ALL OF OUR ASSESSING ON THIS WEBBOARD, six speed, Teamspeed, ferrari chat and any other website you can throw at him.
