Great thanks so much! So can I assume the best path forward would be to replace both my right rear sensors?

Question is....I read that the newer version work differently, better, is this true ? I still cannot pull a VAL with VAS6154 and 37.250.
thx
basically, it depends on the configuration of the car (for example, the presence of LED headlights, ACC, etc.), as well as the absence of the Doip protocol in VAS6154 from China
but newer versions come with new projects and a fresh database for Macan (I don't think this will affect the work with VAL)
we use only original PT3G VCI for work , so we have no problem with VAL

Not sure I understand the question. Are you doing Service or OBD?

I've had problems with generating a VAL and it centered on two issues.

First, for some reason and probably because in trying to disable *** I futzed around with dozens of parameters in many modules (I think *** is mentioned in 40 places) that it generated a ton and I mean a ton of errors. Secondly and IIRC because of these errors, it timed out and went to sleep. I initially performed only service mode as it was mid winter and I wasn't going to open the garage door to sit and idle for 20+ minutes by -40.

I succeeded in the end on getting both a Service and OBD mode VAL by doing the following (YMMV):

1) Clear all codes (which I knew were there for reasons mentioned above)

2) Latched driver's seat belt, enabled hazard lights and disabled headlight and drl's to ensure it wouldn't time out. In OBD Mode you MUST use an appropriate battery charger 75A or better such as a PowerMax.

It took as I remember between 16 and 18 minutes to generate the VAL.

FWIW, when I took the car in for it's Courtesy Service, the dealer was using 41.0 and was unable to connect to the car - even to reset the SRI. The car was just not seen. Having made sure before I drove down that all codes generated due to my futzing (not all the other changes but the one specifically related to *** were deleted) I couldn't understand why he couldn't connect.

When I got home, I connected with no problem with my set-up and reset the SRI and sent them a copy of the VAL and screen pic of the SRI reset. They never told me why they couldn't. Since I"ll do all subsequent work I'm not too bothered as I won't (hopefully) be driving 700 miles round trip to the dealer.

As for updates to 40.600 for my 2020 Macan S and 992C4S, I'm good. It does what I want and if it ain't broke don't fix it. And for my trusty Touareg I have VAG-COM.

Even without any diagnostic connection to the car, you'll easily pull 30-50A of charging current on a battery that is not topped up (i.e. the car hasn't been driven for a day or two).

Once I've topped up the battery such that the only current draw is the actual consumption of the onboard electronics (i.e. no charging current), then I have yet to see a draw of more than ~18-20A in any OBD or coding mode on either a 9Y0 Cayenne or a 992.

For those with a similar current clamp meter setup, I'd be interested in what the actual current draw is from your cars in diagnostic modes. Just put the clamp meter on on +12V line that exits the battery so you can see the current actually drawn by the vehicle.

I always start with no codes, pretty sure when i turn my headlights OFF during VAL....the DRL is always on. How does latching the seatbelts help , and flashers on? curious.......
My VAL hangs about half way....... I have a powermax hooked up always.

DRL's can be turned off by holding light switch. Enabling emergency flasher and seat belt "prevents" it from falling asleep. I guess the seat belt latch signals there's an occupant in the vehicle. You doing Service or OBD just out of interest?

PS BTW you ***** from over yonder (Macanforum)?
