I can’t speak for others, but when I sat in on an adventurine green 992 on the showroom floor. I could see the outer dials after adjusting the seat and steering wheel. I’m 6’2”, not sure if that makes a difference

The devil is in the details. Some of us are more detail-oriented than others. Would you want your surgeon to gloss over the fine details in your surgery? I am a surgeon. I do not know one patient who would want me to gloss over the fine details when operating on them. I feel the same about my car and about other aspects of my life, when it comes to details. Germans are known for being masters of engineering and very detail-oriented. In my opinion, Porsche blew it with some of the fine details on the 992.

The frustrating thing about the 992 isn't that the car is imperfect, but that the things that are reportedly wrong with it would have been so easy to fix.The factory test drivers clearly had plenty of influence over the 992's driving dynamics, but it's hard to believe that they didn't complain loudly about the phoned-in interior features.

Meanwhile, the Corvette is literally driver-centric to a fault, even to the point of changing the shape of the steering wheel to make the instruments easier to see. It is a car that will be a pleasure to drive and annoying to ride in. GM put some actual effort into the C8, while Porsche not only rested on their considerable laurels but regressed in some key areas.

So, congrats to the Corvette team on this one. Well played.

Here is a picture.

Perhaps, if the steering wheel is moved closer, it’s not a problem to see, but then the steering wheel is at wrong distance for optimal driving position.

Glad it worked for you.

Definitely. But this is a big step in the right direction for the Corvette

I wonder if it has more room inside than the outgoing Corvette. I'm 6'6" and couldn't even sit in one because there wasn't enough headroom. That's another plus for the 911. From the 997 on, they've had plenty of room inside for larger drivers.

This is an extremely on point and clear opinion on the 992. I do not own nor have driven a 992 so I can only give any input based on my ownership of 14 Pcars.
It appears that most complaints are about some of the details versus the driving experience which in a $100k plus car do count and should count a lot when considered.
I am not a fan of the "look at me " design of the C8 but I know this will have great appeal for those looking for exotic car looks and performance at an entry price point. I have never been a Vette potential customer after test driving them early on. From age 15 my first 5 cars were Triumph (3 of them), Fiat, Volvo, BMW and a slew of Z cars (240 up). So never a great US car candidate.
I have owned and loved all of my Porsche's but can still be critical when I think they have missed the mark or come up short. I can't imagine Porsche won't listen and make those adjustments in the next update or MY.
Does the C8 look like a well executed attractively priced street and track performance car, absolutely. How will it age in the short term? Based on past cars possibly not well, will it hold value, maybe, what will the maintenance be like in 3 years, don't know. This is not important if it's a 12 month track or street toy but might for those that like longer term ownership. I've owned my Pcars long term and never felt like they looked like an aging Vegas stripper when I traded.
In my non ownership opinion the Vettes don't age well but I'm not a potential customer so it may not matter to those who like the marque.
Good comments on this thread and this car may very well peel away Pcar buyers.

Are there two size steering wheels available for the 992? Every one I have sat in at a dealers seems to have the sport wheel. Is the standard wheel larger diameter?

Same diameters, the sport wheel's ring (term?) is thicker though.

Its funny I read that review and thought easy "win" to the 992. Good effort from GM but no cigar - undeersteers, ordinary braking, lack of feel and heavy too. I was expecting more.

Its actually hard to understand how or why you'd actually build a mid-engine car with that sort of understeer.

For perspective its time round the Motortrend Fig 8 course was the same as the BMW M5 and behind the 718 Spider.

I’ve owned multiple corvettes. This new c8 is no doubt light years ahead of the previous gens. Personally I think stylistically speaking both the interior and exterior of the vette are a hot mess.. that interior is heinous. Looks like it was designed by a teenager. The exterior is not any better. The author essentially saying they look the same is laughable. Like comparing Jessica alba to nicki Minaj.
On the other hand porsche May have to start putting some of the huge profit margin back into the interior and other aspects of the car to make sure that it remains a decent value for the money. I feel the interior quality on the 911 could definitely be improved at its price point. If you give bean counters long enough they will ruin anything.

Perhaps instead of 90# lead bars they will put 90# of LiOn batts and 150HP electric motor and viola you have perfection :-)

The question isn't should I get a C8 or a 992. It's should I get a C8 and have enough money left to also get a Mercedes GLE350.

I'm sure some people do, but is cross shopping a Corvette and a 911 really a thing? The cars are so different in so many ways.

The performance/price on the C8 is off the charts. No one ever accused Porsche of being a high value. But the C8 is ugly and you have to buy and service them at a Chevy dealer. And the whole Corvette culture is not for me.

Don't get me wrong - I'm cheering on anyone willing to make a decent ICE sports car in this day and age. But I just don't see a lot of people who want to buy a 911 end up with a C8.

Now a Cayman? Maybe...that's a more interesting comparison.
