Sad!

How close are you to producing a shorter 2nd?
Back burner for a couple months. Bought a car last week to test fit and sort the sequential gearbox. The mainshaft will get attention once that is done and to market.

Is the part number on the gearbox visible when fitted to the car, i.e. is there an easy way to verify if I have a new or reconditioned gearbox when i finally get the car back?

Not that I know of, only a serial number.

It would be on the official paperwork. The dealer will know, if they care to tell you. They have to be tracking the inventory to get warranty value from Porsche.

The replacement I saw had a sticker with the part number on the transmission.

There will definitely be one on the crate it comes in. If they are putting them on the gearbox these days it is something I've not seen in the past.

The one I saw came in a beat up cardboard box soaked in trans oil. They could have salvaged the sticker and just put it on the trans.

Add me to the list today. Went to Road America for the weekend. Second run session on Saturday, into turn 5, dowshift to 2nd, apex, throttle, upshift to 3rd and WHAM. Nothing. Since I have been aware of the problem, I knew immediately what it was. Tried 3 one more time, then limped back to the paddock in 4th.

Dealer is open on Saturday so I called them and told them that I would drop it off on the way home and pick up a loaner. 45 minutes to the dealer, then 2.5 hours to home. When I got there the mechanic told me that mine was the second GT4 from this event to be brought in. The other failed yesterday and the driver had his trucked to the dealer today.

Mine was built 5/16, delivered end of 6/16 and this was it's 10th track day since delivery.

Sent a PM to Needmoregarage, since it seems that he is the latest database keeper even though I can't open the link that he shows as the latest. Will also cross post to the other GT4 transmission thread.

Mike - I received your PM and replied in the "database" thread (and also replied by PM).

Will be going through all posts in the database thread and updating the spreadsheet over the next few weeks.

Gosh, sorry to hear that. So far I do not recall anyone having an accident or damage due to missing 3rd, but it is bound to happen, it seems, given the failure rate.

I am just dreading the day. Mine was in the same litter as yours.

I've been following this thread and don't remember seeing any Spyders having an issue. Is this correct? I assume it's the same transmission. Mine has 12,000 miles and no problems. No track days either, though.

There was mention of at least one.

That would explain why you slowed up dramatically as I was right behind you in my blue M3. Do you know what color the other car was that had a failure? There were quite a few GT4s there this weekend.

Very few Spyders on trackdays.
