Only 2 reported with build dates in 2015. But the most Common BUILD DATE is April-2016. Over half are Spring 2016 build dates.

Total Failures 73
Double Failures 6

Mind just went out as the dealer was taking it for a test drive after oil change.
8000 miles and my build date was April 2016

That might be the first first-hand dealer experience of this happening. I wonder what he was doing... and then what his reaction was.

Wow.
I have an April 2016 build as well and nervous.
Any track days on your car?

Hate to be a Debbie Downer, but chances are April 2016 builds are not a question of IF but WHEN. Just have the Porsche Roadside Assistance number handy.

My first GT4 was an April 2016 build... I no longer have that car. And my current GT4 was a May 2015 build.... yup very early.

Yes about 10 track days.
the car was still drivable it's just that when you shifted into third gear it was like going into neutral. All the other gears worked.

Yep, its been debated here with some being nervous about driving it to the repair. My experience was that there was no problem with driving using the shift pattern: 1-2-4-5-etc. That will get you to the dealer and on your way to a new gearbox.

Mine happened at the track on the warm up lap for a competitive event. Like TJF says, just like it has a neutral where 3rd was (gear spinning on shaft I thought). I drove it about 50kms home and then to the dealer the next day. Could probably have driven 1000kms as long as you don't select 3rd.

Calling Porsche Roadside Assistance is not much of a hassle (though I did wait several hours for them but it turned out the GM of my dealership was at the track with me on the day it happened and he waited several hours with me). The PRA covered tow range is fairly far (don't recall but something like 80-100 miles or so). After the story from GTGears a while back about another car that had a major incident driving with a fouled tranny, I didn't want to take any chances. Most likely I could have driven it without incident, but why risk it, especially if Porsche is covering the tow.

As they say, YMMV.

Update - 15,000 miles after the transmission replacement and 40 track days later - No issues to date - knock on wood.
