+1. A potential design flaw that is resulting in $25k-$30k worth of damage (which is not being warrantied by Porsche) on multiple cars with less than 10k miles deserves some significant attention.

I tracked/raced E36/E46 BMWs for 15+ years and ran the BMW strut tower reinforcement plates referenced here. Many track miles, and even a couple rubbin' is racin' type incidents and never a bent strut tower never mind having one completely blow out like we are seeing these cars that we love so much...

Franco79 - I'm sorry to hear about the failure with your car and hope you are able to get it fixed to your satisfaction.

All owners that are having or had the problem, including those with concerns about this, would need to band together and send PAG letters as a group....kind of something the 991.1 GT3/GT3RS owners did for their engines. It will take time and long hours on the phone and meetings.

If someone organizes it, count me in. I haven't had an issue, but I track my car and this is definitely a concern for me.

My plan is the same as my 15 GT3. I dumped it when I got tired of reading about the valve train issues. If the strut tower failures begin to go up I'll unload the GT4. For me that would qualify for the 2 and out rule.

I haven't looked at the latest number of failures. So I'm assuming something on the order of 5 failures out of roughly 2500 cars in the US. That's 1 in 500 or 2000 ppm. We're in Yugo territory.

This issue is not limited to the GT4. The car and pictures I posted above were from a 991.1 RS

Its across all 991/981 imo

I wonder if there were any changes for the 991.2 GT3 (and 718 GT4 to come)?

I hope so. When visiting Prestige with Andrew the other day we saw this. I posted it a few posts above but still... a 991.1 Gt3 RS

Yeah, saw that. Hopefully there’s a story to go with that (i.e. not just regular use without an impact).

Particularly, since .2 RS has much stiffer springs than .1

Porsche has made it a habit to try and fix issues on the next model. I.E. coolant hose, IMS, overheating, etc, etc. While not in the same league as GT3 engines or these strut towers it does show a pattern. What gets me is that this issue was addressed in the GT4CS from the git-go (plates and tie-ins to the cage). To me this implies that this was known to possibly happen.

I didn't detect any sarcasm in your post (but maybe I missed it), but I sincerely hope Porsche does not apply the same amount of effort to correct this issue as the ones you mentioned. AFAIK, the IMS issue lasted for 13 model years (96 Boxster to 2008 987/997) and the coolant fitting issue on the Mezger motors (GT and Turbo models) was never fixed - just finally replaced with the 9A1 motors after many years. Crashes on the Nurburgring and elsewhere still occurring due to this fault spewing coolant on the driving surface (997 GT3 in this case)...

There wasn't any; just facts.

Correct, newer model series didn't have the issue and the fixes out for the older ones were never officially sanctioned by Porsche.

Looks like the 991.2 GT3 is not immune to failure either.

How can this issue be escalated up the Porsche management chain?
