This is one of my favorite threads on Rennlist. I'm guessing most would rather see a single GT4 thread on lap times than separate 981 and 982 chassis threads.
Will work on a better data and video system over winter. Used a GoPro Hero4 mounted on the luggage bar.
My fast lap was 2:52. No where near the current fast time posted in here.
Weather was cold, wet, and little sun. Temps started each day in the 30s and only warmed to the upper 40s.
2nd HPDE event in the GT4 and I'm loving the car.
Ran a few sessions in the rain and so long as you go up a gear, there is little drama along the wet line into turns, and surprising speed on the straights.
Car is 100% stock (going to stay that way).
Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2 Instructor was Peter Thermansen. Phenomenal Coach. Cleared for Solo Intermediate after this run.
Didn't push past 7K RPMs, 8K red line of course, short shifted most straights and kept it up a gear on most turns to help traction in the cold and damp conditions. Max Speed into braking zone for turn 1 was 142.
Max Speed into braking zone for turn 5 was 133.
Max Speed through Kink 11-12 was 119.
Can't wait to improve my time next year.
Enjoy the fall colors.
Good speed in the Kink and turn 1. Terminal speed in turn 5 is typically similar to turn 1 (and turn 12), so you may want to look at turn 3 as an opportunity to lower lap times.
Finally broke the 1-minute barrier at Lime Rock today, after trying for so, so long. Felt great! Previous best was 1:00.05--achingly close. So today's 59.39 was amazing!
"Yep. Don’t know about you, but I thought they did a very good job with handling all the virus security issues. Really enjoyed it myself and hope you did as well. May not get back there until the 3-day PCA event in Sept. I’m an old geezer, and my wife allowed me to go only under protest. BTW, if you were still around then, you may know of the unfortunate incident befalling that Cup Car that sacked me in the bonus clip. If do another one there, maybe we can do an eyeball, hopefully without social distancing."
Sorry, Jim, I'm just now seeing this - guess I should subscribe. Yea I thought they did a reasonable job but I don't see why you have to wear a mask if you are out in the paddock working on your car w/ no one w/i 20' of you.
I was checking out a "new" car - the gray 987.2 w/ red wheels and turbo. I did a 1:38.67 but have been faster in my old 987.1 w/ 3.8. I left Sun. morning to get back to Memphis and did not see nor do I know about the Cup incident.
I was back in Sept. but, despite some improvements to the car, was barely quicker.

GrantG and I frequent HPR. If you head out shoot a PM. Always fun to go with other Porsche enthusiasts.

Alright...with the help from Dundon with some Verus Engineering aero, we are down into the 1:56s. Couldn't believe it as it was not a great lap (in my mind). Now we are in "full send mode" to get into the 1:53s for next season.

Whats the general thought of you guys in here about the strut tower reinforcement? Most of you just stay oem or go with the spms strut reinforcement brackets?
I owe the community an apology not keeping the track times updated in my rankings. I will be going through the posts and will update the rankings over the next few weeks.
I sold my GT4 awhile back thinking the next one is right around the corner, and I will pick up where I left off. But, nearly 4 years has passed, and Porsche is finally building the car I want - a PDK equipped GT4 which I hope to acquire by next summer. In the meantime, I've been on track running a full stock '14 981 Cayman S. Even though the Cayman S is only 325hp, driven to the limit it is a very quick car. My fastest laps now have eclipsed my GT4 times. I now tell people that ask me why I sold the incredible GT4 and I tell them "I discovered that Fast drivers don't need Fast cars to go Fast!" LOL! But hey, I admit I treat the Cayman S as the "little train that could" - definitely an underdog and not a GT4. I am expecting the PDK-equipped GT4 to be darn near as quick as a Clubsport right out of the box with the addition of only sticky tires.
So in looking forward with the GT4 fastest track times thread, I recognize that Porsche and Rennlist are making it difficult to rank in a single thread who is the fastest at a particular track. With the street GT4s, there are now (or will be soon) 3 variants - the 3.8 ltr 981, the new 4.0 ltr 718, and the soon to be PDK-equipped 718. Truly, each with a different track capability. The main purpose of the creation of this thread was to give track-focused GT4 owners a place to post their quick laps with videos so other GT4s owners can use these posts as a reference point to gauge how they are running in comparison.
Question for the community: Should this thread be limited to 981s, or should it also include track times from 4.0 ltr 718s?

All the best, Matt
Maybe painful to set up to begin with and manage but three tables for each track would be great. Three great cars !
My vote would be just one list. I feel the 718 and 981 are close enough - including PDK vs manual - that it would be more interesting to see _who_ is at the top and why, rather than _what_. A lot of the people at the top are there because they are seriously fast and I like watching their laps and learning, regardless of what they're driving.

I agree, a 981 with a big enough wing is faster than a 718.
GT4 Clubsport on cup 2 street tires (the 240s UTQG variant) at NJMP Thunderbolt 1:27.7
Nice lap Charlie and nice to see a GT4 at the AER 14hr @NJMP-T event. I drove Class2 Car#207 (Blue BMW E46). Also, I had the grey street GT4 there for morning practice. I occasionally bring the GT4 for team/friend site seeing before qualification. Sometimes I chase my best lap, but couldn't at NJMP-T because I was teaching a driver the track and we had metal showing on the MPSC2's. Hope to see you out there in 2021!
