That goes against everything Porsche has said in the past although it could be a marketing effort to pick up interest with the limited production. Will be interesting if it's true.

Same here (918). Unfortunately.

That would be off since many of us have already put deposits down and orders in.

Hallo to everyone from Germany.

Couldn't resist to drop a line.
Please excuse if my english isn't perfect.

I ordered a Spyder here in Germany with a slot for September this year.
The first Spyders will be arriving at Porsche Exklusive Showroom beginning of July.

There're currently NO Spyders at any showroom in Germany.
NONE, Zilch, ZIP............ NADA

The car simply won't be available at any dealership, cause all slots for Germany are sold. Yep, you got it right - SOLD OUT.

There's a similar Porsche Forum in Germany where Spyder Owners/Buyers exchange infos. In our opinion the total qty. of Spyders for Germany is less than 240 !!! - and an estimated 550 worldwide. If you got an allocation - you're lucky.

The pictures you've been seeing here from Spyders, running on German roads were partially taken by members of the Forum and posted there.

There are currently 3 cars running on German streets as "Press-Cars" for Press presentations. There won't be any serial production car available anywhere to be seen before July.

The ones of you who got a July slot, will be served with Spyders around the same time as here in Germany.

@ all Owners - Congratulations on buying the Spyder

Regards Tom

While I can see all the allocations being taken, find it hard to believe worldwide # is just 550. In the US, heard of build slots all the way up to November (others will correct me here). You have few more months of production run into early 2016; and, yes, it will be a very truncated run.

I do see the Spyder #s are lower than GT4's. My dealer got 4 GT4s: 1 regular alllocation + 3 (courtesy of 918s). But, just one Spyder. However, there are more people wanting/waiting GT4 than Spyder. I think we won't have reliable #s for a few more months, until all the allocations are doled out and consumed.

Welcome to Rennlist and congrats on the Spyder purchase!

I'm curious to know how someone decided that if Germany is getting 240 Spyders the entire production will be 550? I can't imagine Porsche putting 50% of their production into a single country, regardless of it being their country of origin. 2000 Spyders seems like a more realistic number spread over an 18 month production period.

As I said, 550 is our Estimation based on the allocations the Porsche Dealerships here in Germany received. May be more ?!

Does anyone of you have an idea how many there could be in the US?
If its 1 or 2 slots per dealership, how many dealerships are there in the US?

@ MarineBlue:

What gives you the idea that we're looking at an 18 month production period?
From what we know here in Germany they start in July (August has no slots because of the vacation in the factory) an the last confirmed allocation month we got is December. There may be few slots in Jan. and Feb. but no confirmation on that.

Though we're quite sure that production will End in March 2016.

This is what my dealer is saying too. SM told me that the 981 Spyder production run will be smaller than the 987 Spyder. Which is roughly 1600-1800???

The big question is when will the 981.2 begin production... this is what will determine the 981 Spyder lifespan.

Exactly, and you need to take into account that 981.2 - or maybe 982 ? -production needs to be implemented at the factory which is a time consuming process as well.
It will cut a couple of weeks of production time from the 981 as they want the new boxster/cayman to be available as soon as somewhat possible.

Off topic but is that just a lighting thing or does that targa have a dark blue hoop instead of the regular silver? Looks beautiful if that is the case.. New option?

Looks like it is wrapped in vinyl. Must be hiding a update to it? Wonder what they changed for the 991.2? IMHO the Targa is absolutely gorgeous!
