It is not as high tech as the 911 and never will be. And we will never get a larger tire under it either unfortunately.

Listening to this video w/o watching and focusing solely on the sound, this is a very thin sounding engine, as if the lower registers were filtered out. This engine does not have any turbo whistle that I could discern. I am going to assume this is a NA flat six since a flat four NA would be ludicrous from every conceivable standpoint. A 3.8L GT3 engine with a particulate filter tuned to 450HP would fit the sound track IMHO.

Seriously though, they do not sound the same.

Giving credence to those who are in the turbo flat 4 camp... If you listen to both the 718 GT4CS at full throttle vs the STI rally car at full throttle, they are very similar. Keep in mind that the exhaust piping length on the GT4CS is much shorter than that of the STI. Hence, the tonal difference. But if you compare the frequencies at higher RPMs it's very similar... Then again, I can be just completely deaf since I wear headphones with loud music playing all the time

The fact that certified car nuts like us can't tell for sure whether an engine is a turbo 4 or an NA 6 is stupefying. I've gone back and forth at least 10 times. Only thing which makes me think it's not the gt3 4.0 detuned is that the 911 Speedster at 2x the price would have basically the same setup as the Spyder.. $100k vs $200k and handle better. How are they going to let that happen?
