My preference would be to detune and keep a high redline. This would allow better gearing. Lowering the power by limiting the redline (would need to be much less than 8k to achieve the power target without detuning) would result in lousy gearing and a lack of character that the engine is known for.

My guess is some combination of mild ECU detuning, mild intake and exhaust breathing limitations, and mild lowering of redline (enough to allow steel conrods)...
I'm with this. If they were to "only" lower red line, it would have to rev to ~6k only to make 380 at the wheels + 15% loss = 437 rated. Based on a GT3 (non RS) dyno. Drivetrain loss is probably different so even if that's 6500RPM, that's too low obviously. They aren't going to give it any lower than 7500 which is what the current 718/S/GTS rev to with the F4T. The question is really will it go higher than the 981 and if so, how much?

I'd really like if they detuned and let it spin above 8 or to 8 at the very least. But that's just my wishful thinking and I'm sure they have already made the decision. The shift points in the video for the CS are close to the shift points of the other cars so gearing appears to be the same meaning it could rev relatively high if they are hitting the nearly same RPM in order to need to shift. Just wild conjecture though.

It is a 4.0L version of the current GT4 engine. It is not a de-tuned GT3.

GT4 racing is a Balance of Performance series so most powerful cars get restrictors to even out race performance. The Clubsport has been reasonably successful in Euro GT4 series in 2017 but will struggle against newer cars introduced this year.

Not competitive?

Spencer Pompelly and his RS1 GT4 Clubsport MR won back to back at Daytona and Sebring in the IMSA Continental Tire Series this year.

And those cars are turbocharged. And producing a lot of power. If Porsche had any hope of competing it would make sense to me that they went turbocharged as well. Disclaimer - I honestly do not know how well the 981 GT4 CS has done in competitive racing where the other GT4 class cars are competing.

The GT4CS is night and day better than the GT4 street car with the full Cup car front clip. Then there is the PDK box. It is actually a very very fast car. Yes it's not a street car but it is faster than most street car on the track. I lapped about 2 seconds a lap faster in my GT4CS than my 918 on my track. Granted I was pushing the GT4CS 100% and not in the 918, but still, even if I push the 918 I won't pick up 2 seconds.

The only time one feel there is lack of power in the GT4CS is half way down the straights. For comparison, a 991.2 Cup car laps about 6 seconds faster than the GT4CS on my track. A good lap in a Cup car is around 2:03.

I was wondering, what are your thoughts about the GT4CS rear suspension vs. the GT3 cup rear suspension, from the driver's seat? (performance and feel)

(toe and camber curves are objectively better in the GT3, but I personally think for the street cars, the difference in feel and performance because of the suspension design isn't large and most of the feel difference is the weight distribution, differences in the differential, and of course RWS.)

Going to be interesting to see who the winners and losers are with all this guessing. I certainly am not as certain of it as this Road & Track article title is....

This is what an NA car would sound like. The new one spied testing is turbo. Mark my words. In fact, I am going to say it is a 4.0 liter turbo 4.

Found a pic of the engine.

It's a real crowd pleaser.

I don't know guys. I've been in team turbo for months. Check my other posts. To me this sounds like a GT3 engine at lower revs. Haha. I hope it is. I hope I can get pts
