I guarantee Porsche hasn't told the dealership managers what the car will be... your dealership manager is reading the same threads on Rennlist that we are

He didn't say that Porsche told him this, only that he was told this talking to his connections within the network. I'm not saying he's right but we'll see soon enough. I've had this car promised since they ran out of 981 Spyder's. The man believes what he's saying. Just surprised mw that he offered this info in passing while I was there having service. I never brought it up. With people still debating whether the car will have a four or six cylinder.engine, I found it refreshing that he says it's a detuned GT3 NA. To me that's what was important. You put money on one hoping its a six cylinder I suspect. Anyway he didn't get this from reading a thread on RL unless he's lying, not.

Can we all agree it’s not a detuned GT3 engine, this has been covered over and over. The GT4 and Spyder will have a bespoke 4.0 that isn’t shared with any other car at this point. (Most likely the 3.8 from the old GT4 stroked to a 4.0 hence the lower redline) Your dealer, like a lot of our dealers, are probably reading online articles for their sources. Whoopsy is the only person that has seen the car in Weissach - I’ll take what he says as gospel because that’s the best anyone here is going to get outside Weissach until it’s unveiled.

Everyone will want to call this 3.8 that's stroked to 4.0 a "detuned GT3 motor" but it doesn't make it so...

this a million times over.

440hp would be a 65hp increase in a “refresh” year from the previous .1 car

I’d expect around 410hp. Anything more is a bonus.

November 2018 Los Angeles - 992

March 2019 Geneva - GT4 / Spyder

Q4 2019 or Geneva 2020 - GT4 RS (If it gets the go ahead) - swan song for the 718

Have I got this right?

Wait, lower redline? You don't mean lower than the 981.1 GT4 redline, do you? Just lower than the GT3 redline? Scarily, your explanation would make sense for both...

Damn, sorry if I'm late to the party, but has that been confirmed anywhere? Kinda disappointing if so.

Can someone who has pulled a 981 apart please confirm that the dry sump system from the GT3 simply WONT FIT in the GT4 engine bay. Therefore can never put a GT3 engine in GT4 without MAJOR metalwork changes.

First I thought you really believed this.

Then I thought you were tolling us.

Now I think you may actually believe it.

440 HP Spyder

Thanks for the laugh! I needed it after a tough day!

Seriously, I heard it was 540 HP and it’s actually an uptuned GT3 motor...

The GT3 ‘s oil tank can be relocated pretty easily. Don’t think that’s the reason the GT4 won’t have it (though an RS could)

It could even be located in the frunk - I think its a smart move of Porsche to go for a stroked 3.8l to 4l powerkit solution - when you analyse it, for most of the rev range the performance will be very similar to the GT3 and the difference in peak torque will only be around 20 Nm/ 15 ft lb. In fact it will keep costs down, and even allow them to use the same gear box with the same ratios (presumably with a strengthed third cog), again reducing costs.

Porsche are the masters of value engineering.
