They also think its' a good idea just so their customers won't be dying left and right. Race car only, not everybody will get one?
Yeah, this is the GT2rs based race car we've seen testing. Not entirely sure what they are calling it or what series it would race in but cleaning lady confirmed a track only car based on the GT2rs was in development and would be available from Motorsport....

So they may have found a way to make the power kit work this time around. Truly amazing

I seriously don't get this. It looks like the same car minus the rear bumper. The shape of the head and taillights is even the same.

Thanks for all the info Whoopsy!

Yeah, it can't be that different (turbo in street car versus N/A in race car). Homologation. The 3.8 to 4.0 (if that was the direction) would 99.9% be stroked and not bored. That's not enough to get it above 405HP and I am not seeing that number in the final car so they would have to add other power kit items. My understanding is the block is pretty much the same anyway, so it's really a marketing thing and whatever internals they use that differentiate.

It doesn't need to be in thousands of cars, the 718 GT4,Spyder and RS is enough to make it profitable. The GT3 engine is only in 2 models too : GT3 and RS. Also, many parts of these engines are shared, even with the Turbo cars!
Regulations apply to fleet emissions, since the rest of the fleet numbers are so low, they can throw in a few with higher numbers to satisfy enthusiasts.
Ah I think there was a misunderstanding on what I was referring to. Financially I am sure this engine makes sense (possibly the most sense) as it shouldn’t take too much to do this relatively minor re-work for both the street and race car.

It seemed that Whoopsy implied this engine may not be bespoke to the GT4/Spyder model however and may find its way into another model in the future. I was curious as to what that may be.

Yes? Once the camo is off of the 718 GT4, the detailing inside the head and taillights, and the rear bumper are going to be the biggest visual changes. Claiming one is beautiful, then turning around and saying the other is fugly is ridiculous.

In regards to looks, lets remember that it is a 981.2 GT4. Expect only subtle differences which we have seen thus far.
The motor will also be a subtle difference IMO.
Expect to see the 3.8L bumped to 4.0L and most likely different heads, throttle body, cam profile and maybe intake.
Redline will be slightly higher.

Will it be enough to get 981.1 GT4 owners to trade up is the question.

Well yes, if you think of the 3.8 sans powerkit as a "385hp engine." But if you think of it as a "400hp engine," which it was in the vast, vast number of instances it was made, then a linear power gain that matched the 5.263% displacement bump would yield 421hp.

I expect a 420hp motor.
It could be stronger, but we will most likely see a little throttle body again and a basic intake.

Whoopsy just posted this on the other forum in regards to the GT4 RS: "9k redline. More than the regular twins with manual box."

So that means the Manual Box for the GT4 and Spyder and a PDK for the RS with a 9k redline.

This has been a fun riddle game! Thanks again Whoopsy!!! Super fun!
