I keep seeing this mentioned, but haven't seen the interior photos that show the tach. Got a link?

I like the BGB power upgrade route for the 981 gt4. The 718 is not an attractive car in standard form. Hopefully the gt version looks much better than the standard car once we get real pictures.

They were guessing last week that it could be turbo but they now admit it’s an NA GT3 engine lol

N/A wins !!!
That sounds horrible.

I posted it quite a while back...had to blow up a spy pic but it was obvious enough thanks to the "7" being clearly visible. Buried under a few hundred posts now I suppose.

This depends on the resale of 981 at the time of the 718 availabilty and it's price point...

Could have been a Turbo 4 mule is that picture or just plain deception by Porsche. ( I’m not sure if they do aero or suspension only mules?) They do go to great lengths to keep final details under lock and key until they are revealed. I do agree however the clips don’t make me confident in anything over 7,500 for a redline. Whoopsy needs to get on his plane already!

While it's been discussed elsewhere in the thread, step 1 of a new generation of a car for testing is to take the old car and fit the new parts to it. Early prototypes are usually a new drive-train on an old body/interior so that the engineers and designers have more time to build/design the rest of the car. Drivetrain is obviously more important than final body. As it gets closer to production, they swap in final production items for continued testing.

While I wouldn't put a lot of stock in the rev counter for now (they most likely just took a 718 and stuck the new motor in), they weren't revving it out in the clips based on sound. How much of that has to do with the sound coming from the car playing tricks on us, I don't know. I am confident for many reasons that it will rev to at least 7500, but probably higher. One of the things that makes me think the sound is being deceptive is the shift points on the GT4CS and the other cars were very similar. That at least means they have similar gearing. Whoopsy already said it would get the 6MT from the GT3 and we know that has relatively tall gears, meaning they are either short shifting, or the sound is playing tricks on us because the same screaming RSR shifts at around the same points. The GT4CS obviously has to be at a place where it needs to shift, as does the RSR.

I would anticipate a slighty higher redline over the 981GT4. But nothing crazy.

The gearing in the GT3 is much lower than GT4. The speeds in each gear are similar between the two cars, but you need to consider the shift point in GT3 is 1,200 rpm (15%) higher when reaching a similar speed as GT4.

Yeah, I guess I wasn't being totally clear and my comparison was on the GT3 transmission versus what the same trans would look like in the GT4, not necessarily comparing to the 981. However, I totally did not think about the rev limits. It's kind of eye opening. A car that revs to 9k hits less top speed in gears 1-5 than the 981 GT4 only hitting 7800.

The GT3 and race cars rev much higher but the shift points in the videos are close to the same which would suggest similar speed because the transmission is supposed to be similar. I know the RSR and the other race cars they were testing probably use something different than the standard GT3 (race spec PDK versus whatever Porsche has to homologate for the CS). However, it's probably similar enough to the CS in terms of gearing. I'm expecting it to rev higher than 7500 or even 7800 because of the shift points I hear in the videos. All it means right now is that t he RSR is getting to 9k RPM while the GT4CS is getting to 9000-x RPM but with shift points being similar, I'm thinking it probably revs higher than it sounds since it has to hit the top of each gear at around the same time another car does that revs much higher and we know the gearing is better on the GT3 trans.

Good discussion here on the speeds and the like at certain RPM that Grant participated in: https://rennlist.com/forums/991-gt3-...ar-speeds.html

While I wouldn't put a lot of stock in the rev counter for now (they most likely just took a 718 and stuck the new motor in),
Yet they put in the white needles for the gauges? Doesn't make sense. The cars that were spied looked very final spec and it makes no sense to not have the proper rev counter scale in it while already caring for cosmetic Spyder specific details like the colour of the needles.
