I am steering clear of this discussion. The only public information i can share is that the race car should hopefully be here just in time for the 2019 season with a potential launch at the end of 2018 for the street car. I just sold my X51 GT4 and am now just a bench rider but i will check back from time time.

I believe that there were spyshots of the next Spyder already. Here's the link:
https://rennlist.com/forums/987-981-...a-turbo-5.html

A lot of speculation based on the exhaust on that car that it would be a turbo. Did your salesman have any information on that car ?
If he had specific information on the Spyder and not about the GT4, it would add more credence.

Yeah we talked about that picture. He thinks it’s a Spyder with a turbo, and that we will be getting that as the apex of the 718 range, along with a GT4RS as the apex of the 981.

C'mon, Andreas. You know what to do here. Build it and they will come.

Like, the current GT4 is a 981, just not branded as such. The RS will be a trackier version of that.

Porsche could probably run a modified 991.2 GT3 Cup car in GT4 category. The 997 is already homologated for GT4 category though a bit old now.

I realize there's some precedent for different series 911s being built concurrently (i.e. USMY 2005 Turbos and GT3s were 996 while Carreras were 997; 1989 Carrera2s were 3.2 Carreras and Carrera4s were 964s). But those were expensive, range-topping high profit models and production of them was just continued uninterrupted for that last year. It's hard to imagine Porsche retooling and reopening a 981 line that has been closed for nearly 2 years now, in order to build a low-volume, low-profit orphan that was never fast nor prestigious in the first place.

Heck, with the brand new GT3 getting destroyed in the R&T Best Driver's Car comparo by the MB GT-R and handily beaten by the Camaro ZL1, on track, in both objective performance and subjective feel... maybe Porsche has other things to focus on!

Seems like the point is to make money and releasing a GT4 with a decent engine will net a lot of buyers. Not everyone wants a 911.

LOL, I think he knows that the GT4 is a 981, just can't believe they would put out a "trackier" version of the 981 since they have moved on to the 718....

Would hardly call it destroyed, and the R&T writers are simpletons worshiping only the god of torque.

I expect a very different result when EVO does their car of the year next month.
